My son (early 20's) broke his glasses last week. I planned on making
an appointment this week for a new script and then buy his glasses
online. On Saturday, we were at Walmart. I saw the eye center so I
went in and asked how much an exam was, could he get his script and
his PD? The girl asked right away if we were planning on buying his
glasses online so I said yes. She said not only could he get his
script and PD but he could order them online at the eye center. She
would help him pick out a pair and enter the info for him to make sure
it was correct. I did not expect Walmart to be so helpful!

He decided to just get the exam, script and PD and order his glasses
from home where he had more time to look over the selections. I am
glad we waited the few extra days since I was able to get in on the 2
for 1 deal from Eyebuy Direct. I bought him 2 pair for less than $45
including shipping.

i just wanted everyone to know how great Walmart was!

That's great to hear! I think it must depend upon the optical service
and optomestrist that the store uses. My local Walmart will not give
PDs and misdiagnosed my then 15 year old daughter as having glaucoma
(took her to an opthamologist who is now our eye dr...but who still
won't give PDs).

I may be wrong here, but I think that not all Walmarts rent their
optical stores to their national optical chain...some may have
different chains in their stores?

Bullet875;

I wondered if they were private owned too, but I was able to use my
Walmart credit card there so I guessed not.

As far as glaucoma, I had a similar experience but not at Walmart.

I have insurance through my husband and we go to a chain for our exams
and glasses. I also go to a opthamologist (at the time every 2 years)
because I get optic migraines and my mother had glaucoma. I have been
going to the same opthamologist for over 10 years. I always made both
appointments around the same time.

No one ever said anything to me about glaucoma at either offices until
my last time at the eye doctor back in September. He asked if I was
still seeing the opthamologist. I said yes. He said have them check
for glaucoma. He said my numbers were off and he was thinking I might
have the beginning of glaucoma.

So 3 days later I go to the opthamologist. I tell him what the eye
doctor said. For 2 1/2 hours, I am run through tests you wouldnt
believe! The opthamologist said my lenses are thicker than normal. HE
knew that but the eye doctor didnt. The eye doctor only does the one
test for glaucoma so he would never have found that out.

I have to go back in 6 months to get tested again and then yearly
because now Im at that "age".

I believe that was what happened with my daughter as well...thick
lenses. It didn't hurt to have the extra tests done, but it did worry
us a little until we had went to the opthamologist.

We go to the opthamologist because my insurance only has a $10 copay
with him.The copay is the same if it's an opthamologist or an
optometrist so I might as well go to the MD if I'm going to pay a
copay is what I figure. My daughter had stabismus surgery when she
was 5...she may need a fine tuning some day so she might as well see
the Dr. who can perform the surgery...

I hear there's an effective herbal remedy for that.

I thought about that last time-- just getting the script from the
opthamologist and then shopping around for glasses. Our insurance pays
the eye docs exam and I get a hefty discount on the glasses. (My
husband gets his free.) I am not real sure what the insurance would
pay (if anything) if I got the exam from the opthamologist.

Glaucoma (excessive IOP that causes nerve damage) can be treated with
herbs, among them jaborandi and marijuana.

Here are some web sites.

http://www.eyecareamerica.com/eyecare/treatment/alternative-therapies/marijuana-glaucoma.cfm

Anybody else know of any other herbs that can work for those with glaucoma?
