Hello folks,

I can say that my first online shopping experience for glasses was
great. Bought one pair from Zenni, and three from Goggles4u with no
problem (One with photocromic lenses). Prescriptions were accurate and
the glasses looked great. So much so that I thanked Ira for giving the
411 on buying glasses online.

But.....................

Goggles4u rewarded me by giving me a discount on my next pair; this is
when the nightmare begins:

1) Ordered the glasses, waited two weeks and didn't hear back from
them or had my glasses. Finally got an email from them saying that
they wanted to charge me more for my prescription. Told them this was
unacceptable after the fact and they told me they made a mistake and
would correct it by mailing me my glasses. Glasses arrived,
photocromic as ordered but the anti-reflective coating was not
applied. Terrible reflection when near light...

2) Contacted Goggles4u, they apologized for the mistake and said they
would correct the problem by letting me keep the first non-reflective
pair, and they would send me a new pair of my choice. Ordered, didn't
hear back from them for a few weeks. Get a strange email, insisting
that they couldn't do this new pair photocromic due to my
prescription. I told them I had ordered one pair in the past with no
problem, what had changed? They said they were no longer offering my
prescription with photocromic lenses. They said that they would charge
me more to upgrade me to high index lenses. After arguing with them
back and forth, they upgraded me free of charge to the high index but
this meant that I was getting a pair of glasses without the
photocromic lenses I wanted.

3) Glasses arrived three-four weeks lates. Nice glasses, but guess
what, wrong prescription! I had two different places check the
prescription and sure enough, they had the prescription not centered
but at the bottom of the lens!!! Wow!

4)Contact Goggles4u, spoke to Sam and Damien and they said they would
correct the problem ASAP. I told them the eye doctors mentioned that
the prescription was at the bottom of the lenses and not centered as
they should be. Damien said that they would correct this issue and
offered me a free pair of my choice of high index lenses to replace
their mistake. He told me to specify what they did wrong in the
comments section of my order which I did.

5)Four weeks later, I finally got the pair of glasses that was suppose
to fix all these issues. Guess what, wrong prescription again! Knew it
the minute I put them on. Had the folks over at Lenscrafters and
another retailer look at the prescription. Both said the same thing,
the prescription was way, way off. In the left lens the prescription
was centered correctly, in the right the prescription was all the way
at the top, thus causing prism. Both said that OSHA standards only let
you be off by maybe 1 measurement if that, but these lenses were way
off center! I couldn't believe it. The doctors said whoever cut the
lenses didn't know what they were doing.

6)Three wrong glasses later, and I still don't have what I paid for...
Will never buy from goggles4u.com. Terrible service and they can't
even get my prescription correct. I referred many folks to this
company on my first couple of pairs experience but after this, I don't
feel safe referring others to this company...

Thanks,
A Sad customer

I've never worked with G4U, but it sounds like they're at least trying
to do right by you. I agree that it shouldn't take three (four?)
tries to get it right, and I'm glad you have working glasses to wear
in the meantime. I would say there's definitely a quality control
problem at the plant, wherever it is.

As any manufacturing engineer will tell you, it costs at least ten
times as much (and can be 100 times as much) to fix a problem after it
leaves the plant. Much less expensive to find and fix it before it
gets out the door.

Good to know...I'm glad I didn't order the pair of rimless from them I
was considering. I was wary anyway due to a previous encounter that
left me with bad vibes, but I was willing to give them another try.
Now, not so much.

I was planning on purchasing from G4U, but I can't get their 10% off
code to work. Perhaps I should be happy that I didn't order...?

I won't be placing an order with them anytime soon as well, but I
still have $150 credit with them for screwing up two of my previous
orders.

Until they can get their lab to do it right, I can't see how they can
be in business !

I found out something interesting but I'm not sure how much of this is
BS or not. I went to get my eyes checked today and I needed a new
prescription. The Doctor took my Goggles4u pair and put them under
his lensometer or whatever it's called. It turns out that the PD on
my goggles4u was off by more than 3 mm. He showed me that on my left
lens (which is plano) the optical center is correct but on the right
(which is -.50), the optical center is off to the far right. He told
me that I wouldn't notice because it was such a mild prescription but
he didn't like this pair at all. I didn't mention that they were from
an online vendor. I don't know if the centers are off because I'm not
"optically inclined" but I don't think that I will ever order from
Goggles4u again because they don't seem to do quality work anymore. I
did, however, just buy two new pair from Zenni Optical tonight and
I'll be sure to post an update when I get them.

"It turns out that the PD on my goggles4u was off by more than 3 mm"

That is usually Googles4U's problem is having the PD wrong or not
taken into consideration when they cut the lens on their machine and
this error gives double vision. If you take the lens out and narrow
it to the correct PD the double vision will disappear less the
frame ! ...LoL

Lets see now, I already experienced 6 pairs from them this year with
the same problem on two different prescriptions. Now I am just afraid
of placing a replacement order with them again since I now have over
$150 of credit with them.

I bought 2 pair from G4U. One pair is spot on and the other has the
infamous double vision. I will not purchase again.

I just wanted to take the time to share my personal experience with
Goggles4u. I know that many people have had problems with goggles4u
recently but I would like to share a positive experience. I have been
buying online glasses for almost two months. In that time frame I have
probably bought about 20 pairs of glasses or so. Seven of which have
come goggles4u. Five were prescription glasses and two were
sunglasses. And I have to say, that I have yet to experience any of
the problems that other people of this forum have experienced. All the
prescriptions were spot on and the PD too.

I'm hoping then that they've gotten a new lab or found someway to fix
the problems that others have had. And I'll continue to buy from them
until I experience any such problems.
