I can deal with this by trying them on in the store, but - of course -
I want to get mine online! So how do I go about doing this?
I was going to place a sizable order with Zenni, try them on, and then
return (of course, keeping the ones that fit), but I'm unclear about
what this means (from the website's "Choosing a Frame" page):
It is not the practice of Zenni Optical to provide frames for "try on
and return." You may order frames only, at -50% of the price shown on
the website, and the refund will be processed at the time the order is
prepared. If those frames are returned, they will be refunded in the
amount of -50% of the remaining price, only.
Does that mean that if I order frames that cost 10.00, and I order
them for 5.00 (frames-only option), and then I try them on and return,
I will only get 2.50 back? I might be willing to take a gamble, but
would like to know what my options are.

Good luck with that Zenni plan. ;-)
I bet I've ordered close to a dozen pair since last summer and only
have two pair that I liked well enough to keep - one pair from EBD I
love (and really didn't expect to), and a pair from Global that are a
good back-up. But the returns are pretty simple for the most part,
and I've never paid more than $40 a pair (and most were only half
that) so even with a partial refund the financial loss has been
minimal. And I love to 'shop' anyway so I'm still having fun with
this and intend to order at least 2 - 3 more pair very soon.
I would agree with others who have said to pay particular attention to
the TOTAL WIDTH of the frame, with that being an important measurement
to get 'right' if you want to improve your chances of finding a frame
that wins your final approval. I also found it extremely helpful to
try on frames at my optometrist's office while I waited for my son as
he had his routine exam a few weeks ago :)
