Hi all,

Just wondering if there are any updates about the ivy pull at Gladstone Gardens. Is there a date set or will it be ongoing throughout the VBC week? I will be out of town May 22-30 but would love to help out when I'm back.

Should be able to swing by the meet up if there is one this Saturday.

Thanks!
Kathryn

Hi Kathryn (and everyone)
Last week when Ana and I were flyering at your complex about the ivy
we actually bumped into the landlord and talked to him about it. He
took our letter which we got signed by almost 10 tenants and said he
would get back to us. I will likely follow up with him next week.
Although he didn't oppose it, he had some concern about the reasoning
and maintenenance and didn't seem too enthusiastic about it. We should
definitely talk about it this weekend (yes we will be having our
regular meeting at 11:00). If we do go forward with it, we intend to
work on this every day of the event as we expect it will take a while!
We also got word that Commissioner Fritz will be joining us on
Saturday June 5th as she is an advocate of the No Ivy League!

Tentative agenda for Saturday:
1) create drawings for planter strip work. This is needed for our
final Bureau of Transportation meeting next Monday where they will
take the drawings and "approve" the project. The person I spoke to
said we can draw one planter strip as an example for the whole area,
but we need to provide a drawing of the whole area showing which
strips will be worked on, the width of the street, sidewalk and
planter stips, as well as any existing trees and telephone poles,
etc.
2) ivy pulling - how to move forward with landlord. alternative plans
(remove from specific areas rather than the whole thing), buy in and
help from residents
3) how to get the word out about the Yard/Art sale on May 22/23.

Hope that helps and sorry I haven't sent an update recently.

Actually, we shouldn't reschedule; better to keep it consistent so people know to show up.  But since I can't be there, can I help get started on these Thursday night?  Also added #4.

Hi all,

I stopped by the purple building at 42nd and GS on Saturday around 11
and didn't see anyone there- is that the right meeting place? I'll try
to come by this Saturday if anyone will be around.

Glad to hear some of the Gladstone Gardens residents are supportive
about the ivy pull. Any updates from Bill?

If he is still skeptical about why we should get rid of it, here are
some websites that explain just that! (I'd be glad to sent this to
Bill if you don't want to)

http://extension.oregonstate.edu/news/story.php?S_No=969&storyType=garde
""Crinkle leaf creeper (Rubus pentalobus also known as Rubus
calcinoides) is an evergreen groundcover that grows at a moderate rate
to about 1 foot high. Once it's established, it's drought resistant,
needs little care, and adapts to sun or partial shade. Other
aggressive groundcovers like oxalis and wild strawberry may also be
good substitutes."

-Destroys animal habitat
-Creates ivy monocultures
-Severely disrupts ecological function
3) Botanic Predator:

yards and landscaping

Just curious about what time the work parties will be during VBC week
so I can make sure to put them on my calendar- during the day or
evenings?

Very cool that Fritz will be there! I saw her speak at the Regional
Livability Summit a couple weeks ago.

Hey Kathryn and all
Bob and I were there Saturday but no one else was so we left around
11:15. Sorry we missed you. I haven't heard back from Bill yet and I
was going to try and touch base with his this week. But i think it
would be great if a resident followed up with him, if you're willing.
PLease copy me on your email so I know what's going on
(morganm...@gmail.com).

We have revised the schedule slightly and we decided we are going to
do the ivy pulling on the last 3 days of the VBC- Friday June 4-
Sunday June 6. Work parties are from 1-7. Check out the Schedule (its
a page on the google group). Each work party will be followed up by a
dinner for all volunteers!

A couple reminders:
1) This Saturday is our last meeting.
2) Next Saturday, May 22 is the block party/yard and art sale. We will
be sending out a flyer shortly that you can forward on to your firends
and neighbors. But SAVE THE DATE. 3948 SE Gladstone, 10am -dark. We
hope to project a movie on the side of the house after dark!
3) Then the following Friday is the start of the VBC! Kick off potluck
at Stephen and Lisa's place!

Hello Morgan-

Let me know.

Thanks-

Lisa

Hi Lisa,

Thanks for contributing yard sale items!!

Feel free to price things yourself and bring them over Saturday morning (we'll start setting up tables around 9am); Morgan and I will be pricing our yard sale stash Friday after 7pm if you'd like to join us at my place (#4002).

Jennifer is "opening" the sale at 8AM and Joe is signed up to cashier from noon to 2pm.  We could use help cashiering from either 10AM to Noon or 2pm to 4pm if you and/or Stephen are available.  Amit and his girls will run the lemonade stand / bake sale from 11am to 2pm; so you'll have good company!

Hoping for sunshine!

Ana

Ana-

Unfortunately i work on Friday & Saturdays and Stephen has Emily all day. It is tricky to say when she will go down for her nap so to depend on him for a certain time would not really work. I may stop by after work on Friday. I will see how the day goes and how things look when i get home.

Hopefully i will see you sometime late afternoon on Saturday.

Lisa
