non-ascii symbols and accents "prevents" words from selection

I noticed that non-ascii symbols like French accented letters (à â æ ç é è ê ô œ ï ë ù û ü ÿ), not only don't get recognized, but also prevents the word which has these letters from being selected (it seems it's being treated as "total" mismatch, so only other symbols which are much less similar to the one typed get recognised) [Android 2.3.7, Gesture search 1.4.1 build id:108].

One sub-optimal solution may be converting the words into their ascii representation for the gesture search, but is there any other better way? Can we e.g. train the gesture search?

This should have been addressed in the new version just released.
