Dear Colleagues (apologies for cross-posting):

The submission date for the 2014 ISA is coming up fast, and I had an idea for an Innovative Panel (do I have to capitalize that?) in the form of a roundtable role-playing scenario.  Some of you might remember the Fred Friendly seminars that aired on PBS some time ago; this would be that sort of roundtable.  Basically, a panel of topical experts discuss a current issue in environmental affairs by means of a scenario.  Each panel member is assigned a role to play as the scenario unfolds, but they do not know where the scenario will go or how it may resolve.  They have to think on their feet, and draw on their own professional and personal knowledge to answer questions and play their part.  The moderator (me) “runs” the scenario and keeps it moving.

The scenario will involve either an infectious disease outbreak or an act of environmental terrorism, I haven’t decided yet; hence it can be co-sponsored with other sections like the security section or the new global health section.  Either way, I need panelists who are quick-witted and have a sense of adventure!  If any of you might be interested, let me know.  The format can handle as many as 10 panelists, and you won’t have to write a paper.  :)    Usually at ISA, it’s panel after panel of people reading their slides, but this one will be timely and interesting to watch!

Thanks and best regards,

-Beth
