Objectives
Trip 1
1. Work
with local GIS analyst to establish a clear process for collecting, using,
and reporting geospatial information relevant to the project;
2. Build
Haiti FTFN dataset through international and locally available GIS resources;
3. Provide
mentorship and skills training to local staff in areas of need; and
4. Provide
data analysis and map products to support project decision making (including
rapid watershed assessment).
Remote support
1. Provide
mentorship and skills training to local GIS staff in areas of need;
2. Build
Haiti FTFN dataset; and
3. Provide
data analysis and map products to support project decision making.
Tasks
Trip 1
1. Develop
a GIS data collection and analysis process and resources for Haiti FTFN;
2. Train
local GIS staff in collecting GPS coordinates;
3. Identify,
analyze, and integrate existing and geospatial datasets, supplemented by
creating new datasets as necessary;
4. Assess
capabilities of local staff to meet project GIS needs;
5. Provide
mentorship and skills training to staff in areas of need; and
6. Conduct
trainings for technical area staff on the useful applications of geospatial
technology.
Remote support
1. Provide
mentorship and skills training to local GIS staff in areas of need;
2. Provide
illustrative maps and analysis when needed; and
3. Identify
additional GIS resources available internationally (i.e. from academic
institutions).
Deliverables
Trip 1
1. Written
strategy for collecting, using, and reporting geospatial information relevant
to the project;
2. Electronic
resources for managing GIS data, with documentation;
3. Electronic
geospatial data catalogue of local and international GIS resources (list
the organization, key contact, data source, type of data, accuracy, use
restraints, etc.);
4. Geospatial
database (see Appendix A);
5. Site
selection recommendations for irrigation, infrastructure, and sub-watershed
management body activities;
6. Produce
maps as necessary to support project leadership decisions; and
7. GPS
and GIS training for project staff with presentation materials that can
be used in future training events.
Remote Support
1. Identify
GIS resources available internationally (i.e. from academic institutions);
2. Geospatial
database (expanded); and
3. Produce
maps as necessary to support project leadership decisions.

of recent reforestation
c. Areas
in need of reforestation
d. Watersheds
e. Topography
f. Areas
susceptible to erosion
g. Natural
