I'm experiencing problems also. It looks like ws.geonames.org is down. Is there an alternate server available?

just slow. I have restarted the db, some db process seemed to have been
turning endlessly.

Shouldn't googlegroups automatically change the status of a new poster

There are in fact a couple of servers behind the domain ws.geonames.org.
They are not down, only overloaded sometimes. If the probs continue we
will have to reduce the number of free requests. We cannot make the cake
bigger, all we can do is to make the pieces smaller.

There are alternative servers for enterprise users :
