Hi! I'm not sure whether the group is the correct place to signal these,
but I found these places which seems to be referring to the same place:
4177679 -> Wekiva Springs seems similar to 4177671
6943007 -> Baywood seems similar to 5108179
7506758 -> BloomingtonMN seems similar to 5018739
Can someone confirm if those are the same place or not?

 Hi Luca

The oscillation between two different kind of results was due to the
fact that not all servers had the same code version.
Now all free api servers have the same version regarding this
functionality. The ws.geonames.org domain is old and deprecated. The ws domain has
higher load and consequently slower response time.
You should definitely migrate to api.geonames.org, it has newer data,
faster response time and higher uptime.
The obsolete domain will sooner or later be switched of completely.

Hi! I notice that in the alternateNames.txt file the field isolanguage is
often empty. In those cases, what should I assume the isolanguage field to
mean? For instance:

291257 476462 Vas’kova

What is the language code of this entry?
Thanks.

Luca

 Hello,
Hopefully this is the correct place for this. I wasn't sure if I should use
this or the forum.
If I call findNearByWeatherJSON using latitude 40.8 and longitude -73.2,
I'm getting some incorrect/mixed up results. This location is in Commack,
NY, US. However, it appears to be giving me weather for Barnwell Regional

 Hi Denis

The flags are already taken into account.
I can add some sorting behaviour, though not alphabetical as we then end
up giving precedence to characters and terms. Background: In 1991, Ukraine gained its independence from Russia and since
that time, the spelling of the cities, towns and villages of Ukraine has
been changing from the Russian spelling to the Ukranian spelling.
This affects the "Latin" character spelling as well.

My area of interest is of Transcarpathia (Zakarpatt'ya oblast).

 Hi

The findNearbyPlaceName service only returns features of feature class P
(populated place). Bornum was classified as feature class A
(administrative division). Consequently it was not returned by this service.
In the mean time it was changed to section of a populated place with
feature class P and is returned by the service.

 Dear reader,

I'm experimenting with the webservice API to cross-check address
information. I'm not sure how to interpret search results for
dependent countries. Is there a way to retrieve the "real" country
for a dependent country?

E.g., the following query URI for "Guadeloupe, France" (after adding

 Hi Prateek

The gazetteer data files can be used commercially under Creative Commons
Attribution 3.0 License.

Wikipedia was listed there as source in the sense that it might have
been used to check capitals of countries and similar. I have removed it
as a source as it seems to lead to misunderstandings.

It
is perhaps more of a legal question rather than a technical question.

Geonames by itself uses Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 License, which
allows commercial use after attribution.
However on the data source webpage

Can anyone verify that how many triples are in the latest RDF dump file
(2012-11-11)? I've tried several times to convert the file to n-triples but
only get 123121455 triples not the 156502179 that the download page
indicates there should be. (I do get the correct 8345450 features). Is
there any chance I could get the scripts used to generate the RDF? I'd be
