Due to the problems with the ws.geonames.org domain we have temporarily
removed this subdomain from the dns setting.
You can access the services with the subdomain ws5.geonames.org

Best

Marc

Hi Marc,

I am the author of the pear package Services_Geonames available at
http://pear.php.net/package/Services_GeoNames

Incidentally, I'd like to add a "failover" feature, do you have an
official failover server ? is this server available for the free web
services or only for commercial web services ?

Thanks in advance,

As far as I know its only for the commerical service.

It also wouldnt really help in this sort of situation, if there was a
published fallback (even ws5), then the builder of the iphone app (and
any other user) may well of implemented it - leading to the exact same
situation.

I am using it with the 'free' web service via RouteConverter and a
special build by Christian Pesch that permits me to specify the new
server, since the original WAS hard coded in the program... This
'new' jar file works perfectly with the command line permitting ANY
name for the geonames subdomain.

Sure, I'm not trying to solve the server load problem, I just want
Services_GeoNames library to provide a way to handle failover(s)
server(s) and was just asking for some guidance about that ;)

I think the best way is to just provide a method to add failover servers...

Anyway, thanks for your reply.
