Fifty years ago (not to the day, mind you,) "...architect Bernard Judge built a house for himself in Hollywood, from a 45-feet-diameter geodesic dome, after hearing a lecture by Buckminster Fuller. The dome was later dismantled and shipped to the Smithsonian Institution."

Google hosts historic LIFE magazine images, and the large 2-page layout, below, is from the June 20, 1960 issue.

Due to solar heat gain, a fabric canopy was added later, along with operable vents in the flexible plastic skin.

From one of the photos, it can be easily determined that the dome was a Class-II, 8-frequency subdivision of an icosahedron.

Text from the LIFE photo caption:

"FRAME OF THE FUTURE, the struts for a geodesic home, is assembled at night in the Hollywood Hill above far-reaching carpet of Los Angeles lights. The home, designed by Jeffrey Lindsay, will be glazed with transparent plastic and have movable partitions for rooms. Bernard Judge, working above, will live in the frame with a 270° view of the city."

Using the plans, elevation and photos above, I was able to put together a SketchUp model of the Hollywood Hills dome:
