Biagio Di Carlo,

I just stumbled across your paper in Nexus Network Journal, from early last year. I was looking for "Eden Project" imagery on Google, and your paper was one of the Google Books hits.

From this, I hope to model (in SketchUp) a couple of the reciprocal-frame geodesic dome designs.

Enjoyable paper! I'm glad I now have a copy in my digital library.

Dear Taff,
thank you very much for your interest.
It's a good idea to draw with Sketchup  the reciprocal frames.
It would be interesting to see also the draw of the Leonardo bridge.
Regards,
Biagio

Biagio Di Carlo,

Tricky task!

It took longer than I originally thought it would. I finally achieved this mapping, onto a Class III (5,6) geodesic tessellation.

I've also added an updated model to the 3D Warehouse:

Dear Taff
thank you very much. It is a very interesting Reciprocal Frame
drawing
made with my preferred graphic style.

Hi Taff,
I would sobstitute
1. the round sticks with rectangular section sticks
2. Augmentate or diminuite the diameter of all the sticks
What to do ?

How about substituting with pencils? (SketchUp label, of course!)

Wonderful !
But I need sticks
with rectangular section.

Slats took a little longer. With round struts (and with pencils,) I didn't have to concern myself with the rotational "spin" of each strut.

With "slats," I had to adjust the rotation on many struts, to properly "lay against" adjacent struts.

These slats have a 2:1 profile (they are twice as wide as they are thick.)

Very nice !
It is just the draw I was looking for.
Thank you very much,
Biagio

Slats that are 3:1 cross-section provides an even stronger sense of "planks."
