quick test :
can you move the file /usr/share/site/i686-pc-linux-gnu in your home
directory then retry

 Into my home directory or into where the geexbox sources are? I did both to no avail.

FYI, Here is the contents of that file. There does appear to be some SuSE specific thing or 2 in it

can you save this script (keep a copy for example in your home)
then remove it from /usr/share/site
then retry a build
I remember something weird with such file that break the compilation
(but i can be wrong)
