It's looking like the City Market will be our permanent meeting
place. John discussed a book he's reading, Genesis Machines by Martyn
Amos. Within is a discussion on a very unique solution to the NP-Hard
Hamiltonian Graph problem. "DNA computing" applies DNA sequences to
represent nodes and edges of a specific graph. Combining the strands
quickly gives millions of potential traversals. Certain combinations
are filtered, such as only those that represent the correct initial
and end node. Others are filtered based on how many strands are
used. What remains represents a solution.
Steve Dorst made his regularly scheduled random appearance and
promises to join us again in two weeks.
I promised to prepare a discussion next time on some of the algorithms
in chapter 10 of the Programming Collective Intelligence book we're
working through.
Mike brought some very good chocolate from his latest trip to Finland.
