I will also build new versions after Lion comes out. I usually wait until OS is stable (released) before putting a lot of work into using preliminary version the allow developers to try, becuase those versions often change. They even recommend that developers install the pre-release on a spare computer and then erase the drive and start over when the official OS is out. I don't have that many spare computers to follow that path.

I don't see why not. In general Mac apps targeted to earlier systems work on new systems.

I finally got GC II to work in Lion on my computer!!!The Icons database is corrupted in the case where GC II (and many other apps) won't open. Since Apple, in its infinite wisdom, has seen fit to make the home Library folder invisible, you have to access the database via the "Go" finder menu. Enter "~/Library", select the Icons folder and trash it. GEDitCOM II will now work properly.Another problem with some apps is font smoothing. e.g. in URL Manager Pro preferences, I had to go to the "Look and Feel" tab and toggle the "Use Font Smoothing" checkbox. In this case the app opened but nothing at all showed in the app window.

What am I doing wrong?

But, I was able to solve the problem this morning. As far as I can tell, there are no problems in the GEDitCOM II code, but the 3rd party framework used to provide the "Media Browser" causes it to hang on Launch. I am guessing that framework is tied in with the ~/Library/Icons folder. Since the 3rd party framework is used by many applications, it also explains when this could be a problem with other applications as well.
My temporary solution has been to remove/disable the "Media Browser" and it all looks fine now. I will post this fix tonight (PST). I wanted to post it this morning, but my software for connecting to geditcom.com has stopped working in Lion too. Once I have that solved I will post it. I will post just a version of 1.6b2 for Lion with the Media Browser removed. It will appear on
http://www.geditcom.com/GCDown.html
will have instructions. I will try to remember to post message here too when it is available.
I will try to get the Media Browser working again, but the current version of its source code does not mention Lion compatibility yet (only 10.6). One question is whether or not users make use of the "Media Browser?" I don't use it much in my genealogy research. Is it worth keeping? It has caused a few compatibility problems in the past as well.
I take it that there is a typo with reference to << -/Library >> and that it should read as follows.<< /Library >> in the context of Go to Folder.
chflags nohidden ~/Library
The next version of GEDitCOM II (1.7) will store all files it needs in ~/Library/Application Support/GEDitCOM II (i.e., it will stop using the root level /Library/Application Support folder and will change name of current GEDitCOMII folder to "GEDitCOM II." These changes make it easier to install (drag and drop) and will move toward satisfying new Apple rules on what Apps are allowed to do (and are forced to do if submitted to MacApp store). It will thus be useful to get into your home library folder and in my opinion that should be visible to users. But note that GEDitCOM II has menu commands to "reveal" certain key folders (for formats, scripts, and bookmarks) and these will work even if the LIbrary folder is hidden.
