Hello,

I'm using gecko mediaplayer 0.9.8 on OpenBSD -current ( after 4.6) ,
mozilla-firefox 3.0.15, gnome-mplayer-0.9.8p1, mplayer-20090708p2.
This plugin worked fine in the past, but now every time I run
something on youtube I got this message:

error code = 19 - Failed to redirect output or input of child process
(Bad file descriptor)
Spawn failed for filename [...]/.cache/gecko-mediaplayer/[...]

The screen is just an one color rectangle and no video or sound. I
tried to modify the video and sound outputs in gnome-mplayer plugin
interface but no luck.

Can someone suggest please what could be done, it used to work for me
in the past.

I did it, same error. But I catch another anomaly: I used to run
mplayer from terminal comand line in the past, now I did it the same
with gnome-mplayer. But if I run gnome-mplayer from window manager
menu ( I use fbpanel menu) I get the same error. So, for the same
movies, the gnome-mplayer works only if it is run from terminal
command line, not from the menu.

I'm still trying to spot the differences of the two ways of running it.

Possible path problem? mplayer is assumed to be in the path.

Nope, if I run it from terminal it works, it plays the movies. If I
let system run it, by menu or as a plugin, it starts but no video or
sound.

Run what from a terminal? mplayer or gnome-mplayer?

Anyway, sounds like a path/libpath problem to me. If you have verbose
debugged enabled in gnome-mplayer. Start firefox from a terminal and you
should see the plugin debug info. This should tell you what is going on.

OK, I will say again what I discovered:

# gnome-mplayer

If run gnome-mplayer in terminal (xterm) and I play a normal movie,
*.avi from my disk ,it works.
If I run gnome-mplayer from graphical menu (fbpanel) and I play the
same movie file, I get no video or audio - only a grey rectangle in
the video area.

# gecko-mediaplayer (in firefox + greasemonkey + script)

Anytime I visit youtube and play something, I get no video or audio,
only that grey rectangle.

It worked before, in this configuration. OK, firefox was exiting after
maybe 20 movies played, but it worked.
Down here is the output data ( i replaced my real username with "user"
in path). What can be different in UNIX world when you run an app from
a terminal or graphical menu ?

[Big thanks ]

Thanks for the details on the bug report that was much clearer. Is it
possible that firefox is a linux app and gnome-mplayer is a OpenBSD or
some other issue.

The error appears to be coming from glib. The fact gnome-mplayer works
from the console is quite confusing, I have not seen this error before.

And BSD people here with any advise?

Kevin
