hello all,

after installing google gears on my firefox 3.5.4 in ubuntu linux 9.10
i tried to do a test gears demo (http://code.google.com/apis/gears/
samples/hello_world_database.html) and it gives me this message:

Could not create database: Page does not have permission to use Google
Gears.

when i try to go to gears settings in the Tools menu nothing happens.

anyone know why this would be?

thanks,

bk

Rather strange. I installed 'Gears.xpi' from the Google Gears
website into Firefox 3.5.5Pre (next bug fix version coming
out) and checked out the link you posted and it loads up fine,
pops up the Gears dialog box that asks if I want to allow the
site and I added a few words to the sample database, no
problem. Seems like it should run on 3.5.4 if it runs on a dev
build of the next release.

You're not running the 64 bit versions of Ubuntu 9.10 and
Firefox 3.5.4 are you? If so, Google does not make a 64 bit
version of Gears. You have to install the 32 bit version of
Firefox in order to have Gears support.

This is the only reason I can think of for Gears not to be
working.

I have the same issue here and wonder who finds out how to solve it.

On Updateing Firefo there was a message that the gears plugin is not
compatible.
Installing it anew was possible without error message but still it
doesn't work.

I have been using google gears for 6 months. I updated to 9.10 and
now it doesn't work. I am getting the exact same error described by
Brian. Pretty frustrating.

I'm seeing exactly the same problem here on an eeepc, no gears
settings. The sample didn't work, but I first noticed trying to get
gmail offline to work ...

I've installed gears both ways - through the firefox add-ons interface
(0.5.32.0) and apt-get install gears (0.5.32.0~svn3391+dfsg-0ubuntu1)

Am running an up to date Ubuntu 9.10
