What causes Gears to show up on a website that doesn't use it?

Hello !

Something strange is happening on my bank's website. When I'm logged
in and I go to a certain page, I get the Google Gears message : "The
website below wants to store information on your computer using Gears"
with the name of my bank's server, even though the website is not
using Gears! (I asked them about it.)

I'm curious to know what could cause Gears to think it wants to be
used when it is clearly not...
