Sorry, people, but the name "Gay Guy"--as in "Major Gay Guy"--has
already been suggested (by "moi"). In addition to asking for a name,
the form invites you to post a computer-relevant story idea. Here's
mine:
"A computer bug screws up Camp Swampy's database. All the gay soldiers
wind up getting triple the usual salary. But by the time the glitch is
corrected, it's too late to recoup anyone's money. Mysteriously, the
biggest party Camp Swampy's ever seen, occurs a few days later...and
it's "very gay". The straight guys and ladies are having just as much
fun as the gay ones. (The only one upset is Gen. Halftrack, 'cause
he's in need of the perfect excuse for why this all went down.)"

Oh, here's a second scenario I dreamt up:
A soldier is caught downloading pornography on one of Camp Swampy's
new computer terminals. Lietenant Fuzz discovers that the erotic
photos being downloaded are men (and the person who downloaded the
pictures is Killer). Fuzz is embarrassed and nervous, approaching
Killer on this delicate topic. Anyways, the situation is amicably
resolved, and some new gay characters appear in this comic strip for
the first time. They even double-date with their straight buddies.

Then he needs to get off his sorry little butt, and quit pretending
he's OTHER than gay! There has NEVER been any overt example of his gay
sensibilities, and it's time for Mort Walker to be fair to the gay
community, and contribute towards ending homophobia! C'mon, Mort, have
some of your characters come out of the closet. This is not a simple
issue of whether or not your readers will be queasy over it, as if to
say: "The public isn't ready for this yet." It is an issue of whether
or not lives are saved (or more are tortured/killed). Your globally
widespread audience is an excellent venue to deconstruct homophobia on
a large scale...likewise for all popular comic artists.
But to sit back and do nothing (by refusing to include a gay
character), then homophobic blood is also on your hands, Mort...and
you shall eventually have to answer to this crime.
Hm isn't this a bit exaggerated, one has the right to chose what to talk
about in the comics they write?

That's a subtle trick question...very subtle. But no cigar.
Since "the majority" often chooses to supress anything too "different"
from itself, then we cannot "allow" them just to talk about what
pleases them. This would result in a blanket suppression of all
minorities, and women. This is why we have a clause to protect every
minority from the "tyranny of the majority", in our Declaration of
Independence.
We are talking here, not just of anyone writing comics or jokes...but
of highly mainstream, popular authors doing same. (This is the second
"trick" you tried to pass in your message. Again, no cigar.)
For them to exclude a gay presence is deplorable. Especially since
they tend to pride themselves in helping children accept differences
in our society. So if any popular author is too glad to incorporate a
black character, or women's activist (or other non-mainstream
lifestyle), then to continue to ignore a gay existence, is to
perpetuate homophobia, by not showing kids who read these comics, that
gay people are okay, too, just like blacks, Asians, etc.
I mean: what is their problem? What is anyone's problem with gay
people? These homophobes are not merely misguided...they preach and
practice extreme forms of oppression, violence, and death to our
wonderful gay citizens. Including regular gay characters in our
mainstream comics will go a long way towards diffusing such hateful
prejudice, by having children grow up without thinking of gays as
"alien", "weird", "different" and "sinful". I mean, how EASY it is to
get young people to hate queers, when they have never been exposed to
anything normal about gays, in any of the entertainment media that
bombards them each day. If these media outlets don't assume some
responsibility for educating children in the gay matter...then why do
they bother at all to produce edutainment that teaches kids about the
basic goodness of other minorities?
You need to check out my page, where Charles Schulz's attorneys
threatened to take down my parody cartoon of Peanuts. I won by default
(parody clause), and that site now serves as a good sounding board to
extrapolate on the matter of no gay presence in daily comics. It also
provides valuable lessons to issue of copyright, free speech, and
parody protection. Here's the URL:

That means that comic writers who feature gay characters in their stories
should get equal opportunities to get published as writer who feature
straight characters.
It doesn't mean a comic writer should be *forced* to include gay characters
in her stories. That's foolish, sorry.

Popular, unpopular... I don't think the definition of "comic writer" depends
on popularity, either before the law or before the dictionary.
> For them to exclude a gay presence is deplorable.
Deplorable, maybe. I still enjoy reading Beetle Bailey, so I don't think
I'll bother to "deplore" the author 'cause he doesn't include gay
characters - but if you wish, feel free.
Only, "deplorable" does not automatically equal "against the law" where I
live.

Gee, if he wants to write comics about people living in a military campus,
he writes comics about people living in a military campus, and if
homosexuality is not a topic that interests him as a priority, he doesn't
write about it!
Read Trudeau, he writes about homosexuality.
Read König, he writes gay comics.
Everybody, write what you feel like writing and what you find you write well
about!

Surfing to it right now. But even before reading anything you've written
there, I think I can say that, in my opinion, you've taken your (valuable)
opinions about free speech and equal opportunity a bit too far.

Well, if a writer is to reflect the life we actually live in, which features
Gay people prominantly in media - the integrity of the work may demand
inclusion of Gays.
Realistically, if Beetle Baily were to be topical and current - it would be
'forced' to confront the issue of Gays in the military. Beetle Baily makes
zero effort to be topical and thus can't be faulted - in my opinion at
least.
I'm gradually working on my Gay superhero comic. Guess what? -I'm 'forced'
to include heterosexual characters too; if I want to keep the integrity in
my story any how.

The reality of most military situations is that there is a lot of gay
activity happening in the midst. At least, according to my boyfriend who was
in the Air force - and my ex-boyfriend - who is getting gang banged in the
US army as you read, perhaps.

One really good thing about the internet is that young gay people who need a
positive spin on being gay - can find support online- as well as comics and
cartoons with gay themes. The newspaper no longer has a monopoly on the
cartoon entertainment we love and enjoy.

Yeah, any single use of almost anything is allowable as 'pardody'. Who
want's to see Aquaman fuck SubMariner?
