Anybody home or did everyone take President's day off?

I know I know we are a football school and it is the off season, but where are our round ball guys and gals?

Here!

For me, basketball is a very unpleasant viewing experience.  I get so emotionally involved with every missed shot, made shot, bad call, momentum swing, that I would rather record a game and then watch it AFTER I know the outcome.  That being said, I LOVE this team.  I love the fact that we have four seniors who have worked their butts off to become exceptional players, and that experience shows in all the close wins we've had this season.  They don't panic, they actually rely on their coach to refocus their efforts during a game.  It's pretty special.

The expectations may be unreasonable for the tourney, but I doubt this team will exit the tourney because of losing composure.  They have shown a constant ability to improve whatever needs to be improved in their game (hello improving FT % to 78+!).

I'll enjoy this ride, the winning streaks, and a win at Rupp as long as it lasts.

Mary

Mary,

The only basketball I watch are the Gators and then only occasionally.  Being overweight, vertically challenged, and a poster boy for white men can't jump I was always more suited for football.  Because of these factors, I just never really got into basketball, so when I watch it is purely as a supporter because unlike football, where when I see a cover two zone or an unbalanced line I know what should happen for the most part, when I see 1-3-1 zone in basketball I have no idea if the point guard is suppose to dribble penetrate and kick it out to the wing or setup for a set play off the pick and roll.  I basically just watch and cheer if we make a shot, get a steal or get a rebound, otherwise I figure the outcome is not so good.  I will say I think this squad plays team basketball in that there does not seem to be a dominant individual, the sum of the parts is greater than the whole as individuals.

When you leave both your Kindle Fire HD and Samsung Galaxy S4 on the hood of your Jeep and leave a grandson's soccer game in Holder, Fl and drive to Gainesville, you get to spend a couple of days reconfiguring your new Kindle Fire HD and Samsung Galaxy S4.

Paula and I will always treasure the memory of watching the Gator Final Four game at the Tallahassee Capital Circle sports bar with you, your Mom and other Gators. Great fun.

Ouch!  I have long-range GPS tracker chips on my iPad, Keys, luggage, etc. so I can find things when I get absent-minded.  (I even have one in my wife’s purse so I can find her when we go shopping!)

Unfortunately and I do mean that, over the past several years I have completely lost interest in basketball and baseball. It's funny but as a youth basketball and baseball were my best participant sports and football my worst. I pretty much stick to football watching these days but I always check the Gators score and want them to win every game.

I kind of feel obliged to follow Gator basketball.  If Billy’s going to keep winning all these championships, it’s the least I could do.

Now, do I understand it?  Heck no.  I’m getting better, I can now tell a point guard from everyone else.

The whistle blows and I wait for the crowd to cheer to find out who the foul is on.

I am a fan.  Just not a well educated fan.

It was sure nice to beat the Cats Saturday.  I know a bunch of Ky fans living here.  I like to act smug and try to not mention it when the Gators kick their scrawny butts.

You qualify as a basketball expert, if you can properly explain the pick and roll play…

The pickle roll is a technique in burger construction where the pickles are placed directly on the roll before the burger, as opposed to on top of the burger with the ketchup and onions.

The next question in determining the Basketball IQ of someone is to ask them what the – Back Door Cut is….

A fancy way of describing the crack in someone’s backside doesn’t count….

After following Billy Donovan coached teams all these years, one play I am surely able to identify is the pick and roll. I'm more educated than I thought!

No, no, not at all.

Historically, a "back door man" was someone who was having an affair with a married woman, and would use the back door to come and go for visits while the husband was gone.

The phrase was made famous by the blues song by Howlin' Wolf of the same name. It is also used in Led Zeppelin's song "Whole Lotta Love."

A "back door cut" is the result of the knife fight that would ensue when the husband came home unexpectedly.

The idea of someone being a “Back Door Man”, conjures up really ugly images in my mind of someone playing for a different team than the one I play for….NTTIAWWT….I think I have it right…

Another context arises out of the days when single adult women would live in boarding houses supervised by an older matronly woman.

A suitor who came from the right family, et al., would arrive at the front door and take the young resident out on a chaste date approved of by the house mother.

The man that the young lady really loved, if he wasn't "approved" by the matron, would be forced to sneak the young ladies out of the back door.
