Subject: Possible demo night topic: interest level?

Hello all,

I write from St. Croix. I've been here on work for over a week now and
leave on Tuesday.

I am here running an archaeology survey project in anticipation of
installation of a solar farm. Basically making sure this project does not
impact any cultural resources.

Is there interest in a presentation on this sort of material on a demo
night? It includes some interesting tech (lidar, analysis of satellite
infrared data), but the results are the result of
"machete-through-the-bush, dig-a-hole" methods. Nothing fancy.

There are obvious questions with regards to this research: the why, how,
and where?

If this were to be presented, I would appreciate more questions in order to
structure a presentation to fit the Hackerspace ethos,

I always like to think of archaeology as a nice mix of grunt fieldwork and
laboratory analysis.

Ideas? Questions? Comments?

Regards,

C Altes

Hi Altes

Our upcoming (20 November) Demo Night is already booked, but perhaps
this is something we can present in the future. Will you be around the
area for a while, or are you just passing through as you depart from St.
Croix? (I apologize if you're a member of Hackerspace and we've either
never met or I've forgotten your name. I'm bad with names.)

Regarding the "Hackerspace ethos", our Demo Night presentations are
thematically based around presenting something that someone has made or
is in the process of making. Do you think you could frame your content
like that? (As in, "I did X as part of building a solar farm.") I, for
one, would be very interested in hearing more about the project, if so.

Please let me know what you think. Thanks!

Chris

Hey, Altes! Hope you're having a good visit in St. Croix.

As Chris Lane mentioned, Hackerspace Demo Night is made up of a bunch
of mini-presentations on projects that people have recently completed
(or maybe they have reached a cool milestone in a bigger project).
There are typically about 4-6 presentations, so each one needs to be
pretty short; therefore, we ask each presenter to aim for 5-10
minutes' worth of content.

Would you be okay with that amount of time, or should we schedule a
special night for your topic?
