Hi Ian,

I'm sorry for the discrepancy. What map source are you downloading where you notice this?

We actually just estimate the map sizes, because it's somewhat cumbersome to calculate precisely and keep track of the values.

A pretty good fix would be for us to re-estimate the average tile size for the source you're seeing the biggest difference. A better long term fix would be for us to calculate in the background at a convenient time.

Andrew

When I select a map area and zoom level for download, it gives a download size estimate (for example, 600MB for a large area). After downloading is complete, viewing the map's information also shows this size for the map. However, if I check my device's storage usage, the app will increase in size by almost double what the stated download size is.

Has anyone else experienced this issue, and is there any information on a cause or fix for it?

OK, I opened an issue in our tracker, and I will look at that for the coming release. Our new release is going to be a big one though, so it's probably going to be at least June before we post it. I guess in the meantime I would just say treat the space requirement numbers from Gaia on that source in particular as suspect.

Andrew

I'm seeing this discrepancy using the USGS Aerial source for various areas in New Mexico.
