Hi Simon,

I am sorry for the trouble you are having.

What coordinate type are you using on the iPhone 5? You can check this in Settings of the app - it is either Decimal, Decimal Minutes, DMS, UTM, or MGRS.

My suspicion is you are using a non-default coordinate type, and we might have broken one of the types in the new release. If so, changing coordinate types would be a good workaround, and we'll fix the issue as soon as possible, in the next release.

Regards,
Andrew

Hi,

today I downloaded Gaia GPS V7.3.1.
I like your very much, but there is an annoying bug when I set a Waypoint.
Whenever I put a point and then write in the GPS coordinates and click save, the point jumps somewhere else. Its impossible for me to enter an exact position.
This only happend to my iPhone 5. On iPad 3 it works perfect
To set Waypoint with a photo and exact coordinates, was the selling point for me.

I hope you can fix this Problem soon.

Thank, we will look at DDM coordinates and fix it.

For the compass, do you have "Compass warning" turned off in Settings?

Since the compass is an electromagnet, it gets confused by being near computers or other metal/electronics.

I think if you turn on Compass Warning, it will show a warning and instruct you to move away from the computer, and wave the device in a figure 8 pattern to calibrate the compass.

Thx for reply,

yes I'm using DDM (Degrees, Decimal Minutes).
The others are working fine.
But I think there is a second bug. The compass-function on Maps section is not working for me. Not on iPhone or iPad.

Hi Simon,

I am not sure what is going on. I have a couple more ideas to suggest:

1) Can you try restarting Gaia? You can restart an app by:
 * tap the Home button on the device twice to bring up the task bar
 * press and hold an icon in the task bar
 * after the red Xs appear, tap the X for Gaia to close it

2) If restarting Gaia doesn't work, please have a look in Settings for Gaia. Can you tell me:

 * Under the Compass section, what do you have "North Reference" set to? If you have it set to True, you need a GPS location to get a compass reading, and I wonder if this is befuddled by being in doors.

 * Under the Power Savings section, do you have "No GPS Until Activated" turned on? This is just a guess, but I wonder if you do, and there is some bug in how this works.

Andrew

Hi,
Compass Waring is on and I got this message. The compass is working fine on Apples map.app and other Apps with compass function. So I think its a Gaia GPS bug.

OK, I think it must be that the iPhone does not have a location. "True" corrects the declination based on your GPS reading, and gives more accurate readings depending on where you are on earth and how long you travel.

Hey Simon,

We are trying to post the release today, and I was just looking at your issue.

Can you tell me what coordinates you put in that jump? I have tried making pins in several places around the world, and I can't find how to reproduce this.

Andrew

Hey Simon,

Thanks for the follow-up, I hadn't tried editing the waypoints, just making new ones.

This makes it more clear what is going on. We will have a look and get back to you by next week.

Hey Simon,

I wanted to let you know that we the bug you reported with editing DDM coordinates, and we shipped a new version to Apple.

Barring anything unforseen, I expect the new release should be live either Friday, or the following Monday.

Thanks for your help!

Andrew

gaiaGPS v.8.xx ,(UTM co-ords, metric),  ipad 1 and ipad mini

I had the same problem exactly, waypoint jumped ~100m west each time when saved until I changed from NAD 27 to WGS 84.  That seems to have cured it.

Thanks Tony, I guess we still aren't getting it quite right.

We'll have a look at this for 8.1 in the New Year. We're going to be off for a few days, pretty much everyone!

Merry Christmas.

Kind regards,
Andrew

Hi Andrew,

This thread was started well over a year ago.  I'm using an iPad mini with iOS 7.1.2 and Gaia version 9.1 and I am having the same problem that Simon had last year.  When I create a waypoint and type in coordinates (UTM) and press SAVE, Gaia changes the coordinates.  When I create a waypoint and attempt to move it by dragging the pin and press SAVE, Gaia still moves it.  This seems like a huge bug, if it is indeed a bug and not something I'm doing wrong or have set up wrong, and it should be fixed.  Appreciate any comments or suggestions you may have.

Thanks,

Bob

Hi Robert,

I think we have that fixed in 9.1.2, which should go live next week.
   * Fixed incorrect handling of datums when editing waypoints, for degrees and UTM

I think this is a separate, but similar and new issue. Sorry about the bug!

Regards,
Andrew
