Ok, this may not be a big issue with para gliders but gliders in planes would like to know the altitude safety factor back to LZ. This feature is built into some better glider instruments.
This should be easy. Gaggle knows the altitude of the LZ, where the flight began, it knows the glide ratio of the plane. It should be able to calculate the distance back to the LZ.
Gaggle could then supply me with an indication in ft or meters like 1000'.  This means if I turn back to the LZ now and glide at the pilot supplied glide ratio  I'll have 1000' when I reach the LZ.  You could also set an alarm at say 500' that sounds off. This means your altitude indicates that if you turn back and glide at the determined ratio, assuming no lift, you are below the 500' threshold by the time you reach the LZ. Should be pretty simply and should be displayed during flight. (Yes, I have contributed and will continue to do so, great SW guys.)

Of course real time altitude would be nice, but I expect you may be holding of on this until you start to sell the product. You guys could make this a full glass dash board with a little more work.

Hi David,

Thanks for the idea, that should be rather easy to add :)
I've added an enhancement ticket :

https://github.com/geeksville/Gaggle/issues/59

I've just received my Android book so I should be more active here :)

Cheers,
Marc
