Hi All,
I thought I would continue the tradition of filing ride reports even though I am a little far removed geographically. Set out this morning on a ride up PCH (Pacific Coast Highway) with my new riding buddy ("JR West"). Similar to the real "JR", Scott is head of 4 Biomedical start ups here in the biotech corridor of San Diego. Unfortunately, he is a little faster than JR (and much faster than me) so I am hurtin right now. Cruising at 25 mph into the offshore breeze is a little ambitious for me, but there is nothing better than a rabbit in front to motivate me to get in better shape. I had a total misconception that San Diego was flat. With all the canyons and cliffs near the ocean, we are constantly climbing and descending.
As I left my home to reach the coast
this morning, I saw a constant stream of riders coming south. Turns out "Bike the Coast" was taking place today and I must have seen over a 1000 riders during the morning ride. Needless to say, there are many more cars on my rides here, but amazingly, they share the road quite well. I can tell you that I will miss the long rides in the country with few cars .... still looking for that ride out here . The main problem this morning was getting distracted by the young women in bikinis, playing volleyball on the beach alongside the road south. Today it started out at 68 degrees and got up to 74 by the end of the ride. Expecting close to 85 degrees tomorrow as a "Santa Ana" wind from the desert is expected. ...... nice for November.
Stopped at the Java Hut for coffee toward the end of the ride and overheard a gentleman with long hair and a full beard explain why it was so much better to buy pure soap made from
animal fat that to buy detergents with all of those chemicals..... I am in California.
I hope everyone had a good ride this morning, even if a little colder than mine.
Cheers,
Fred
