I have an artist request / compitition for all the furry artists out
there....

It would be a dragon pic. Male. Best one I will mail a $50 check to.
The only stipulations, is that the dragon must be male, it can not be a
old pic, and must be posted to this server. ( a ploy to get more
dragons? maybe ;) ) I have no way of checking if it is new unless I
have seen it, so your on the honor system No other stipulations Go hog
wild ;)

The pic will be graded on its completeness, style, and overall quality (
in other words, the one I like most. The contest will run aroximately
till whenever I feel like it. (or aprox one month )

Please say in your post that it is for the "dragon drawing contest" so
that I do not miss it.

If you have any questions, or doubt the validity of this post, you can
e-mail me, or probably Brian O'Connell. ( As I sent him a titanium, or
was it 2, crow-bars for a drawing award, and a bunch of money for 2
commishions in january, but he has been so busy, that I haven't seen
anything yet. So in other words, I do have the money and do send it out.
)

Well, not being an artist myself, I can't follow up with a picture, but
could I follow up with a comment?

I've seen a number of posts like this in a newsgroup which should be
*binaries* only. Some artists may like to get challenges and requests like
this, but I'd prefer to see pictures of naked ladies or men, and not long-
winded textual posts.

Secondly, the usual way to get pictures drawn is to ask artist (A) to draw
a picture of subject (S). If A likes to draw S, then A will draw S for you
and email or snailmail it to you. Sometimes A charges a fee (F). In that
case, A will ask you to pay F, or a function of F (such as 10% for a down
payment) before drawing S.

So if you want A to draw S, you pay A F. If you want free art, you find an
artist whose F = 0, and ask A to draw S.

Is this clear?

Well, the prob with this is, most artists dont do requests, commissions
only. Its not fair, for alot of artists to do the full work, then in the end
possibly not get paid for it. Alot arent willing to do this. (this kinda
thing has happened before) Just pick out an artist and ask for a commission
=).

Well, if it ain't a rude fanboy spoiling your day, it's a tin god. Hey,
you have as much right to click 'mark as read' as anybody else in this
wide world. If this NG were 100% images, I have serious doubt that it
would retain any of its talented artists - I'm reasonably sure they want
feedback.

I probably skip over 80%-90% of the messages here because of content,
artistic taste, and sometimes simply because I don't like someone.
There are a lot of follow-up posts in many threads, and I usually mark
these as read and move on, unless the thread particularly interests me.
Request posts seem to be relatively rare, and contests for a prize even
more so. And as a non-contributor, what the hell would give me any
authority to even suggest that FAE should be devoted purely to binaries?

Frankly, the place of the fanboy is to sit quietly and drool. Our
enjoyment of FAE is a byproduct of hours of hard work by the movers and
shakers, while we sit on our asses and download that work in seconds.
If the artists say, "Shut up and just look at the images," then maybe we
should do what they say. But until then, could we assume that this is
an open creative forum rather than a closed gallery?

For myself, I'm starting to wonder who might be interested in an art
trade with a different kind of artist. Seems like a good place to ask.

Hi, Rust.

Fur.Artwork.Discuss was created for feedback and discussion. ^.^

Well as an artist I think the way he worded it and what he is offering is
more than fair. If an artist wants to try for it it's up to them and they,
more than likely, they enjoy drawing any way. It's the same as any other
art contest, yes you could work your ass off and get 4th place, no ribbion,
no plack or anything (speaking from experience here). If it's a "sad"
attempt at getting more dragon art here then so be it, what he is offering
is more than justifable for the suggestion. Maybe some fur will get it that
realy needs it. My two cents...

But it's inconvenient and theoretically designed for the entire F.A.
hierarchy. Probably a bad design from the start. I would have done
something like

Fur.Artwork.Adult
Fur.Artwork.Adult.D
Fur.Artwork.Erotica
Fur.Artwork.Erotica.D
Fur.Artwork.Misc
Fur.Artwork.Misc.D

Like they do on the rest of USENET.

That's me, though.

Seriously... look at the traffic that goes on .discuss.
Five or six messages in the last two weeks, so far as I can tell. There
really can't be much of a serious readership there. No readership, nobody
sees what you're doing.

Well thank you Pittman. This is basicly a ploy to get some more dragon artwork
into this newsgroup. I know others enjoy it as well as myself. I just want
others to share in the creativity of the group, and hot hog it all myself. I
know that some artists here do not like anyone posting any paid artwork up here
for all to view. This is just a way to actually get it up here so everyone can
view.

I have decided to give out money to the top 5 just so that Pittman will not get
pissed again at coming in 4th ;) Still $50 for first, and I'll figure out
something for the other 4, as long as I don't go over $100 it should be fine. I
am also going to take away the MALE requirement, because as I think about it, a
few artists pop into my head as not prefering to do Males. I also have to leave
a loophole for Doug Winger. I do not believe that I have ever seen a Herm
Dragon from him ;)

And too a few of the replies, I do pay artists for commish's. Just, sometimes,
they do not want the pic shared in the group because it might be a little away
from what they normaly draw, and do not want to spoil their reputation ;)

This is just a informal competeition for the news group, if you have no desire
to draw, or think that I am anoying ( which I am ;) ) please do not draw one. I
have no desire to piss off anyone in this newsgroup. Annoy, I can deal with,
but not piss off ;)

Actually, the only sarcastic thing in my post was the " ( the correct way )"
This is for real. No joke.

Actually, I believe he did one not too long ago, someone from FurryMuck, and
quite delicious looking, might look in his VCL directory.

Mmmm, I think he means this as a contest, him being the judge, may the best
artist win. You can argue whether its fair or not, but in the end, he's not
holding a gun to your head making you draw what he wants, enter it if you
choose, or not.
