unable to update

hi group,
new to linux, enjoying gentoo and funtoo.
haven't been unable to update for some days.
filed a bug report at gentoo and was referred here.
my problem:
emerge world -uDNpv

You need to unmask it and keyword it. If you don't have an /etc/
portage directory, make one,
# mkdir /etc/portage

then add your unmask and keyword entries like so:
# echo gnome-base/gdm >> /etc/portage/package.unmask
# echo gnome-base/gdm >> /etc/portage/package.keywords

You should then be good to go.

i had unmasked in package.keywords, package.unmask is new to me.
i found funtoo portage site yesterday. package was not masked there
either.
had a power outage which further messed me up so reinstalling.
