FIVE THINGS THAT THE LORD CANNOT AND WILL NOT DO!!
Psalm 99
Introduction: Recently I preached a message on Four things that the Lord did not know. As part of my introduction, I listed His attributes. One of his attributes is He is Omnipotent. This means that He is all powerful.
Who could think of how the power of God could be harness? There is no limit to His power. He has the power to create. To think that He took nothing and create this world with its beauty and splendor is mind boggling. Then to know how the human is made up of muscles, neurotransmitters, blood chemistry, flesh, bones and no wasted parts is almost unthinkable. To deny there is a God is utter foolish. Of course, the Psalmist David said that: Psa. 14:1; Psa. 53:1. “The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God.”
Part of His power is seen in His holiness and righteousness. Here are some verses that deal with His power.
Gen. 1:1
“In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.”
Job 42:2
“I know that thou canst do every thing, and that no thought can be withholden from thee.”
Isa. 40:12
“Who hath measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, and meted out heaven with the span, and comprehended the dust of the earth in a measure, and weighed the mountains in scales, and the hills in a balance?”
Jer. 32:17
“Ah Lord GOD! behold, thou hast made the heaven and the earth by thy great power and stretched out arm, and there is nothing too hard for thee:”
Dan. 3:17
“If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king.”
Amos 5:8
“Seek him that maketh the seven stars and Orion, and turneth the shadow of death into the morning, and maketh the day dark with night: that calleth for the waters of the sea, and poureth them out upon the face of the earth: The LORD is his name:”
Mark 10:27
“And Jesus looking upon them saith, With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible.”
Luke 1:37
“For with God nothing shall be impossible.”
So with those thoughts planted firmly in your mind, I want to talk about five things that the Lord cannot and will not do. They are:
1. He cannot and will not change.
2. He cannot and will not lie.
3. He cannot and will not fail.
4. He cannot and will not remember your sins.
5. He cannot and will not take back His salvation.
May the marvelous truths of these thoughts be written upon our hearts today and that the devil or sin in our lives erase them from it.
I. THE LORD CANNOT AND WILL NOT CHANGE!!! Mal. 3:6
“For I am the LORD, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.”
Heb. 13:8
“Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.”
A. His Sovereignty will never change.
1. He is still Lord of all even in the storms.
* "Never doubt in the storm what He promised in the calm."
2. He is still Lord of all even in sickness.
3. He is still Lord of all even in satanic attacks.
B. His Scriptures will not change.
Psa. 119:89
“For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven.”
1. The Bible is unchanging in its promises.
2. The Bible is unchanging in its power.
Heb. 4:12-13
“For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.”
3. The Bible is unchanging in its pronouncements. It still calls sin, SIN.
a. Adultery is sinful.
b. Addictions are still sin.
c. ABSTAINING from what is right is still sin
d. Abortion is still sin.
C. His Strength will not change.
Psa. 138:3
“In the day when I cried thou answeredst me, and strengthenedst me with strength in my soul.”
II. THE LORD CANNOT AND WILL NOT LIE.
Heb. 6:18
“That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us”
Titus 1:2
“In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began”
A. He has no reason to lie. John 14:6
“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”
B. He has reasons for us not to lie.
1. It is sin to lie.
2. We are suppose to be like Him.
3. He expects us to be truthful.
Eph. 4:25; 29
“Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another.” “Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.”
III. THE LORD CANNOT AND WILL NOT FAIL. Deut. 31:6
“Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the LORD thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.”
A. His promises have never failed.
1 Kings 8:56
“Blessed be the LORD, that hath given rest unto his people Israel, according to all that he promised: there hath not failed one word of all his good promise, which he promised by the hand of Moses his servant.”
1. The only failure involved with the promises of
God is our failure to do what the Lord expects of us in order for Him to do His part.
2. Most of our failures are prayer failures.
James 4:2-3
“Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not. Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.”
Mt. 7:7-8
“Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.”
B. His power does not fail. Pro. 21:1
“The king's heart is in the hand of the LORD, as the rivers of water: he turneth it whithersoever he will.”
He has the power to create, control, circumvent, convert and complete.
Phil. 1:6
“Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ”
C. His peace does not fail. Phil. 4:7
“And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
I have seen people who want the peace of God but they don't want to let Him have control. They really like to use the Lord like a convenient store.
IV. THE LORD CANNOT AND WILL NOT REMEMBER YOUR SINS.
Jer. 31:34
“And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.”
A. He will blot them out. Acts 3:19
“Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord”
B. He will cast them in the depths of the sea.
Mic. 7:19
“He will turn again, he will have compassion upon us; he will subdue our iniquities; and thou wilt cast all their sins into the depths of the sea.”
The bottom of the Pacific Ocean is 26,000 ft.
C. He will forgive them. Ex. 34:7
“Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and that will by no means clear the guilty; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children's children, unto the third and to the fourth generation.”
D. He will send them as far as the east is from the west. Psa. 103:12
“As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us.”
* But He will not do these acts without you first asking Christ to forgive your sins.
V. THE LORD CANNOT AND WILL NOT TAKE BACK HIS SALVATION.
Rom. 6:23
“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
Eph. 2:8-10
“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.”
John 6:37
“All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.”
John 3:16
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
John 10:28-30
“And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand. I and my Father are one.” A. Salvation is forever and ever.
B. Salvation is finished.
C. Salvation is firm. 1 John 5:13
“These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.”
* Being saved is not a license to sin. Some people think just because they have been saved by the grace of God that they can live anyway they want. These people are sadly mistaken. Sin in our lives not judged by ourselves will be dealt with by God and his chastening.
