By Sally Millsap “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.” - John 3:16 - 17 One of my favorite funny memories of Easter is a confession that a dear friend of mine made concerning our childhood… Twenty five years ago, the annual First Methodist Easter egg hunt was traditional held at the home of a member with a beautiful yard way out in the country. The “big deal” was to be the child that found the golden egg with a cash prize inside. Finding the prize egg was a lot like finding the golden ticket in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and we discussed it in Sunday school class for several weeks before the Easter egg hunt. The day of the Easter egg hunt arrived and my sisters and I were ready. We were dressed in our cutest outfits and had our Easter baskets ready to collect the most eggs, but we really wanted to be the one to find the prize golden egg. We gathered on the front porch for the countdown and once the little kids got a head start, the big kids were allowed to get to the really serious Easter egg hunting. After... more »

Dandelions by Ryan Korstange: I was walking in the yard the other day with my daughter when she spotted her first dandelion of the season. Now, I haven't owned a home for long, but I do realize how insidious dandelions are - I understand the yearly ritual of spreading pre-emergent weed control on the yard, the desire to uproot each individual flower so that it doesn't produce hundreds more, and the general frustration and displeasure that a yard dotted with yellow brings. (If you don't know me well, I have a bit of an addictable personality, and right now I'm choosing to focus my addiction on the yard for better or worse). I just can't seem to convince Katy Jayne that dandelions aren't the coolest and most desirable flower ever. I've tried everything I can think of. When we walk around the neighborhood I point out "respectable" flowers, and play up how amazing they are; I involve her in my various planting projects, trying to convince her how much better it will be to till under the... more »

***Hello everyone! I hope that the devotions have been a blessing once again to each one of us. I wanted to let you know that we have many spots open and that is the reason that I have skipped the past couple of days. If after prayerful consideration you would be willing to contribute, please let me know. Thank you so much to those of you who have already volunteered-you are a blessing to us all! If you have already contributed but have another topic to share, by all means let me know! This time around we are not limiting the contributers to members of the New Life Sunday School class, but have opened it up to the entire church body.... more »

If only we could see the BIG picture... by Aimie Markham Romans 8:28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. Ok, Ok...so I will preface this with the disclaimer, for those of you that don't know me well, that I am an eternal optimist. A glass half full kind-of gal. A dreamer. My number one spiritual gift, whenever I take the "Spirtual Gifts" survey, is ALWAYS exhortation or encourager.... more »

Why Do We Suffer? by Don Newburry 2 Corinthians 4:17 (NIV): For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. One of the questions about Christianity that has always bothered me is: "If God is all powerful, and God loves us completely, why does he allow his people to suffer?" I have heard and read many thoughts on this topic. The three reasons that make the most sense to me are:... more »

Why do I keep doing this? by Karen Boston Romans 7:18 I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. 19 For what I do is not the good I want to do; no, the evil I do not want to do— this I keep on doing.... more »

Title: What am I going to do? by Amy Jaramillo Passage: Proverbs 3 – The Message Verses 5-12 Trust God from the bottom of your heart; don't try to figure out everything on your own. Listen for God's voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; he's the one who will keep you on track. Don't assume that you know it all. Run to God! Run from evil! Your body will glow with health, your very bones will vibrate with life! Honor God with everything you own; give him the first and the best. Your barns will burst, your wine vats will brim over. But don't, dear friend, resent God's discipline; don't sulk under his loving correction. It's the child he loves that God corrects; a father's delight is behind all this.... more »
