As we know there is more than one way to install/use F#.

Currently I am aware of
1. Visual Studio (Purchase)
2. Visual Studio Express (Free) with F# update
3. Mono
4. Xamarin Studio
5. Debian package
6. FreeBSD with Mono.
7. SharpDevelop

Is there one place that has all of this listed?
Which ones are current, and which ones are not being actively supported? (i.e. is SharpDevelop falling behind?)
Are there instructions for installing these for say a first year CS student?
What are the incompatibilities, i.e. builds scripts, solution and project files, versions of .NET and F#, etc.
Which ones support NuGet?

I am mostly asking for others new to F# who can't afford VS or want to work with Linux or Apple and want to see what are the current options; also I know I will need these and want to try these in the future. I know people are putting a lot of work into these, but from reading the threads here, it still takes time to figure out what's what. It would be nice to have one page that spells it out.

I don't expect one person to answer this, but if you are the expert on one, if you could add a response it would be appreciated.

Thanks, Eric

I think the “Getting F#” section on http://fsharp.org/ should be a good starting point. (If you see any information missing there, please let us know, or better – submit a pull request to https://github.com/fsharp/fsfoundation :-)).

Thanks,

Tomas
