The Aranya Bodhi Hermitage is looking for a sliding mitre saw.  We have recently enjoyed the visit of a skilled monastic carpenter, Bhikkhu Jaganatha, and he has shown us how much building and repair work can be accomplished by reasonably handy volunteers, and even by bhikkhunis if only we could cut the lumber accurately!  The Buddha allowed monastics to build our own simple lodgings and to sew our own clothing.  It is part of the frugal lifestyle, making us easy to support.   Bhikkhu Jag wrote, "The sliding Miter saw allows any carpenter, or construction worker, to build timber structures from simple tent platforms to more complex house or shed structures.  The sliding miter saw is an indispensable tool for the efficient cutting and trimming of timber lengths into suitable sizes which are square and ready for joining.  This is something that cannot be easily achieved with a circular saw."  If you have such a tool unused in your workshop, and would like to offer or lend it, please contact awakeni...@gmail.com.

Thanks to a generous gift from Mahen and Sepali, we have our saw!   Due to our electrical situation, we settled on a Makita cordless circular saw, which can be charged up today with our gas generators.  The Makita saw will match the Makita cordless drill so generously given last year by Kate D.

In a few weeks, when our solar electricity is installed, the Hermitage will be able to run normal power tools for carpentry, minor building projects, and repairs.  Such a carpentry workshop is considered good practice for a monastery, making us more frugal, and less dependent on others.  We would accept tools such as an 8' x 15' plastic shed, saw horses, utility shelves and workshop storage systems, a portable workbench, and the standard, basic set of power tools, i.e. a table saw, sliding miter saw.

If you have such things to give away ... your older tools still in good working condition, or a hobby you no longer pursue, or things you find in a yard sale ... please contact awakeni...@gmail.com.
