Dear Dhamma Friends,

Aranya Bodhi Hermitage is seeking a friend to be our interim lay steward, or a team of friends as volunteers, for part or all of the next six months: November through April. Our lay stewards provide the support for the bhikkhuni sangha in the way of necessary shopping, driving, weekly landfill trip combined with propane fill up and csa farm veggie box pick up. She may also help keeping administrative records in good order according to AB guidelines. There is a choice between staying for two days a week on a regular basis or residing here. A heated bedroom behind the kitchen is available for your convenience. Tent camping through the winter months is also possible if one is in good health and loves living well within nature in all weather; it is cold and wet through winter and absolutely lovely. We ask you observe the 8 monastic precepts during your stay.

Aranya Bodhi is a rustic off-grid Theravadin bhikkhuni hermitage on the northern Sonoma coastline. This is a wilderness redwood forest without grid electricity. We have a very relaxed fall and winter schedule with plenty opportunity for your own meditation practice and study. Ayya Tathaaloka, theri, our Abbess and Ayya Sobhana, our Prioress will be residing here this winter and available for Dhamma Reflections and classes. There are possibly six monastics in residence for all or part of this six month period. We do not have a telephone and only limited Internet access. Please bring your own laptop if you will be communicating by Internet. Presently we do not have a hermitage computer for your use.

Temperatures here can range from low 30's to 60's during the cooler months. The humidity may be around 100%. We have one indoor shower and one outdoor shower. Please plan for dressing in warm layers, with warm socks and wet weather shoes with good traction. You may find it helpful to plan for bringing: a poncho and umbrella, flashlight and headlamp, cold weather sleeping bag, quick-drying towel, basic eco-friendly toiletries, thermos, hot water bottle and any prescribed medicines.

Please email awakeni...@gmail.com expressing your interest.

With Metta and in Gratitude,

Aranya Bodhi Hermitage
