I have been waiting for my son to surrender and ask for this much
needed help. He will leave the United States by the end of February
or sooner and then would like to travel to New Life Foundation. He is
30. He will travel alone unless someone else is leaving from here
also. Please advise us on the best travel plans. Thank you.

Bill Booth Philadelphia, here. I've been to Thamkrabok, it was great. I went as I am in recovery here in the USA. If you need to talk, Bill 267-880-6008. He's in good hands, aftercare will be the crucial element. The people here, Vince and friends will help talk via email with him on his return, but being with others in recovery statistically makes a huge dif...

HI Linda,

I've sent you an email about your son's 'Journey of the Hero' containing some basic advice.

For the benefit of others, I'll just take the opportunity to reiterate here the most important consideration for anyone thinking about detox at Wat Thamkrabok.  The simple fact is, that Thailand is a very dangerous place for drug addicts and alcoholics. We all know a lot of people who have succeeded in breaking their habits at Thamkrabok; but equally we all know half-a-dozen or more who didn't make the return trip.  Your son has to be very determined and must be able to answer those 2 critical questions:

(1) Do I want to travel to Thamkrabok voluntarily, completely of my own choice?
(2) Do I really want to stop using drugs and alcohol?

If he can't say 'YES' without hesitation, then it is better he stays at home and seeks an alternative treatment programme.

I hope this helps but otherwise just let us know.

Best wishes and kind regards.

With Metta,

Vince
