'Introducing Buddhism' by Jane Hope,(Well) Illustrated by Borin Van
Loon.
Very good intro to ALL aspects of Buddhism in a very jovial,comic-
strippy format.The sort of book you can just open at random and start
reading.I have a copy in the toilet and also sent a copy with my
brother to the Monastary when he attempted de-tox last year-I hope its
still in the library.Great for the absolute novice and very easy to
digest-actually quite funny in places.

'Teach Yourself Buddhism' by Clive Eriicker
Another good 'idiots' guide and actually the first book I read on the
subject.Very Informative 'run-through' and easy to read with some good
quotes.

Very interesting biographical distillation of the History,Life and
Background of the Buddha and Buddhism.I enjoyed this book immensely.

'Awakaning the Buddha Within' by Lama Surya Das
This Lama was actually a Brooklyn Jew who hit the hippy trail in the
seventies and somehow found himself in a Nepalese Monastary.He then
went on to study in with Masters and Lamas from all the traditions and
aims his teachings at the Western Condition.Very digestable,though I
would consider it intermediate.
Its a bloody brilliant book!Read it before you die!

life' by geshe Michael Roach.
I'm only a third of the way through this,but its so good I'd thought

HARDCORE ZEN : Punk Rock, Monster Movies and the Truth About Reality
Zen has always been a complete mystery to me, so although this isn't exactly 'Zen for Dummies' it certainly is a novel introduction and a good read to boot.
