Hey everyone,

I posted to the forums about this, but Bram suggested I post it here as well.

I'm working on an iPad app for finding and collecting sounds from freesound.org.

I'm looking for beta testers, if anyone on here has an iPad and would be interested in trying it out.

I'm also looking for feedback re: API use, if there is any. i.e. does anyone have any concerns about how I'm using the API, etc. I want to play nice, and not be a burden on the site.

Thanks!
Cory

Hey Cory,

Sorry for not replying before...

I'd love to give it a spin, I've got an ipad2 at home, ...

I remember your mail to support@ included some questions about the
API, could you repeat those here?

Ah, I found your original mail:

With that in mind, I will definitely be donating some of the profits from the app, assuming there are profits, to the site. I don't want this kind of thing to be a drain on the awesome work you guys are doing.

By the way, I do see one minor detail I would like to see fixed in the
screenshot:
When you are downloading the files you are stripping out all data
about the user and file ID. While this sounds like a good idea, it
doesn't play very nice with the license of the sounds.
It would also be nice to -when a file is downloaded- you also create a
text file with the same name which has the licensing information and
the required information about the file like the person who created
the file, the URL of the file on freesound etc etc, just like we have
in the attribution list (see
http://www.freesound.org/home/attribution/ )

Hey Bram,

Thanks for the feedback. I've been worrying that I'm being a little too cavalier with the license stuff, so it's good to hear your take. I have already added licence info to the sound details, and I had plans to add something like what you are describing as a version 1.1 feature.

The app does prepend the sound id before the file name... so sound id 11212 with the original filename My_Test_file.wav would be saved as 11212_My_Test_file.wav. It's not much, but it was my initial nod to being able to look up sound files on freesound after they've been saved to Dropbox.

I'm not sure exactly how I'm going to handle this, but I'll definitely make some changes so that file attribution is more obvious.

One other thing... I'm still settling on a name for the app. My working title has been TeaSound (because it rhymes with Freesound) but that's a pretty so-so name. I haven't decided on a final name, but I was considering calling it something like "Appname for Freesound" or "Appname - Freesound client". Would there be any objections to that kind of a naming scheme from you guys? I don't want to pass it off as an OFFICIAL CLIENT, but I do want its function to be apparent.

Thoughts?

Best,
Cory

Cory
this sounds great. as both an ios audio developer and a api user of freesound, the ios platform needs more freesound!
i'd be happy to beta test too. i have ipad1 and ipad mini. with regards to licensing, perhaps when user downloads, a pop-up could show license details and a link to license agreement. user then must confirm the download . if user makes more downloads soon after the pop-up could be skipped. also, perhaps put the id at the end of the file name. this way the filenames stay in alphabetical order. maybe. looking forward to playing with the app.
cheers
