Hi,

Can anyone help this real novice please? I thought this freebie 'pull &
paste' program from the front of a mag. would be just the job for me to put
together my first web site quickly - and it has. Trouble is, for uploading,
my pages are all contained in a 'Web Artist' folder or 'directory' and
Freeserve want an identified index.html page - 'an index in the root'
(whatever that is)....

I've gathered I should create a separate 'welcome' page and link this to the
'Web Artist folder - but I'm floundering as to what all this means! (& how I
do it..). Would some kind person be prepared to spell this last bit out to
me please? Anyone else used this program and tackled the same problem?

Apart from the built-in FTP program with Web Artist I've tried uploading
with- WS_FTP LE too - though I haven't fully read its Help File I must
admit.

Otherwise, it's back to the drawing board ..

Sounds as tho' the easiest way is to rename the first or main page
index.html, and make sure any links back to this page are altered to <a
href="index.html">whateveryouwanttoput</a>, and then instead of uploading
the full directory, just upload the individual files using WS_FTP.
If however you have further folders within your main folder, this will mess
up all your other link refs .In this case you may be best doing a separate
splash page called index.html, and linking it to your web artist directory
contents with :
<a href="whateverthefoldernameis/whateverthefilenameis.html">press here to
enter</a>
and make sure you don't put this into the webartistfolder, but upload as a
separate item.

Many thanks, this is what I needed - together with the coding. Just the job.
Now I can get on with taking my time finding my way round Dreamweaver -
another freebie from a Mag. cover.

What a nice bunch you all are.
