I wonder if anyone can help me with this one?I have just purchased a medion scanner and it is doing some weird stuff. when it works it is brilliant, scans no problem, but sometimes when I go to use it I get an error message saying
1.Please ensure that the scanner is connected to the computer.
2.please ensure that the scanner is connected to the computer and that the led light is on.
3.please note that it is not possible to connect the scanner through the usb device power.
how weird is that.but if I eject it and take the lead from the back of the computer and then put it back it works ok again. device manager sees it and tells me that this device is working properly, obviously it is lying to me ,

Try unplugging your scanner at the mains socket before you power on your PC. Plug it back in after you've powered on the PC.

It could be that for some reason your usb card cannot provide quite enough power for your scanner to work properly, I have one the same plugged into the onboard usb port and it works fine. Does your board not have built in usb ?

Easy way to check is look in the bios pages for anything refering to usb. If there is then the board has got usn on board, it may just be that you have a connector that you can plug a riser into.

If you have a separate power supply for the scanner use it, if not you could try a self powered usb hub and plug that in between the computer and scanner. The scanner may not be getting enough power from the usb port.

Yes it means you do have onboard usb, and it would be best to use this rather than a seperate card. The problem here is if need to by the riser that plugs onto your m/b it needs to be correctly wired to match your board. You should have a connector on the board which has two rows of 5 pins (or 4 one side 5 the other) it probably says usb next to it on the board. I don't suppose you have the m/b manual ? If not do you know or can you find out what your m/b is ?
no I don't have the manual,I had it repaired a while ago and was told that it was a 7 something or other,I know this probably of no use but unfortunately I have know idea what board it is.

Well it usually has some kind of ID on the board, you can also find out from the bios but it's easier to look on the board, same goes for finding the usb connector. Without knowing either there's not a lot you can do but put up with the problem, or get a scanner that uses external power, or try a different usb card.
i have been using it for a day or two now without any problem,i will attempt to find out what type of board it is and if i have any more problems i will post back again
thanks for all your help wazza

The problem I get with my scanner is that it is connected through my printer port - the printer cable is connected to the scanner etc etc, and I find that once I have used the scanner the printer decides that it doesn't work and I have to switch off and start again. Tomorrow - brilliant, I am having a new parallel port fitted so that the scanner cable can go direct to the computer and I don't have that problem any more. The port and the fitting is going to cost £35 - so not bad,

Another alternative would be to by a switch box and cable for £15.
