We are a HealthInformatics organization working with different HIOs,
RECs and small/mid level providers to push open source technology in
healthcare area as part of HITECH and "meaningful use" act. We are
currently evaluating all the open source software. Our initial
reaction of FreeMed is really encouraging (primarily the semantic
tagging, the interoperability features, usage of codes and the overall
architecture). In that effort, we will like to know if you have the
following features in the FreeMed Application and if not, is there any
plan to implement it in near future?
a. Drug Interaction checker
b. Clinical Decision Support
c. e-prescribing - It seems like you are planning to implement it
using NCPDP in your latest version.
d. Electronic Lab orders - It seems using Mirth it is possible. Is
there any existing working interface with national labs like Quest,
LabCorp that is available out-of-box?

with national labs like Quest, LabCorp that is available out-of-box?
Thanks for all your effort and hopefully we can push the OpenSource
movement in healthcare together.

We have been researching open drug interaction databases to implement this.

This depends on EGADSS integration, which we were working on with the
EGADSS people. If you want to see the backend software used for this,

Correct. I'm waiting on an updated copy of the specification from
Surescripts so that the newest standard can be implemented, since the
docs I'm working from right now are a few years old.

We just implemented the backend and tables for clinical orders
(including labs), so I'm waiting for the UI team to finish up the user
interface for it.
There is an HL7 export piece to use Mirth to pipe the lab requests to
their appropriate destination, so it would just require a Mirth
channel to be authored (which there may already be one for either one
or both of those labs, I haven't checked).

The import, yes. I've gotten Quest lab import to work properly. They
use a SOAP interface rather than a direct HL7 listener, so I had to
have it poll them rather than their data being automatically pushed
in.
