i tried to install this on ubuntu server 10.04 lts and it couldn't
find the following packages in the repositories:

ghfaxviewer
tetex-bin
tetex-extra

Yes, Ranjan, that is my error. 
When I wrote these instructions, I failed to mention that they were for Debian 5.0 and not Ubuntu.  I have corrected this on the Support site.
FreeMED install instructions on Ubuntu are not available at the present time.
Perhaps you could consider installing Debian version 5.0 instead.
