Hello FGS,

In our last meeting, we discussed having our Nov event on a Saturday afternoon (Nov 17th?) in order to introduce a FGS overview and demo of Linux to the community. In addition we would hold the next meeting on the tail end of the day. The tech lab room is available.

Can someone confirm that this is a go?

Thanks,
Jon

Hey Everybody,

Reminder: It's time for our monthly Free Geek Seattle meeting.  Everyone is
welcome.  This month, our quarterly board meeting will also be part of the general meeting.  We'll be meeting at Third Place Commons in Lake Forest
Park.  It's by Third Place Books on the top floor.  We'll put two or more tables
together by the electrical outlets in the main open area.  Wifi is
provided by King County Library System.  We'll meet from 18:30 till
21:00, or later (6:30pm till 9pm in American time).

One thing we should discuss further is where to have our monthly meetings, and our physical location once we can establish that.  I propose that we finish deciding where to have our monthly meetings at least two weeks in advance of each meeting, so that our planning goes smoothly & reminder announcements can go out on time.

Third Place Commons address: 17171 Bothell Way NE , Lake Forest Park,
WA 98155  (Upper Level of Lake Forest Park Towne Centre)

Hi Mark, Great that you can be there!

Chad/Andrew et al: are you game so that the public invitation can go out?

It's at the community center in SE Seattle.

I suggest bring some live CD's on USB to enable the few machines in there with some sample env that people can test drive. Donations and requests for grants/volunteer can be requested.

I can't commit to being there.
My living situation has de-stabilized and I'm going to be bouncing around between this area and Portland for a while, probably settling there.
I'll be in touch in the meantime, and will continue to do the things I can do remotely. I'll still be on the list and monitor the irc when I can. If I'm in the area on the 17th then I'll show up and help out as I can.

Hi Chris,

Good to meet you, & welcome to Free Geek Seattle. I'm unclear on
which of your email accounts you want us to use for you, depending on
the situation.

I agree that a Meetup.com account would attract some additional people
to help out with FGSEA. It's not within our budget at this time to pay
for a page on Meetup.com, but if someone has an extra group memebership
on Meetup that they can offer us, that would be great (They give you 2
extra groups with your yearly dues). Meetup.com wouldn't work for our
primary means of communication, but it would be a good addition to this
mailing list, our Website, & irc channel.

Please come to our November meeting, if you can make it.

As far as us setting up a physical meeting to discuss creation of a
greater Seattle cryptoparty group, we'll have to figure out a location
to have it, date, & time. Because of traffic & how spread out
throughout the greater Seattle area we all are, I think it would make
more sense to discuss it in irc, & this Free Geek Seattle mailing list,
and/or another online place (like the Black Lodge Research/dc206
mailing list). Black Lodge Research in Redmond have shown a lot of
interest in hosting one or more Cryptoparties at their hackerspace in
Redmond. Free Geek Seattle created the first Seattle area cryptoparty,
& we hope to be at least involved in future ones. This is exciting!

Cheers,

Elcaset

I'd like to come by and meet you guys to discuss setting up a
cryptoparty group in Seattle. Please let me know when and where. I'd
also suggest you guys make a group on meetup.com. It's much easier to
get to than this, and will attract more publicity. Please email me
personally at cyc...@gmail.com with the final meeting time and place.

I would definitely like to see meetings announced on Meetup. We'll also post them on cryptoparty.org. We still need to pick a time and place. Anyone from FGS got any ideas?

I DO have a really old, grandfathered meetup account that allows me to create two communities (I think because I ran one before?). With input, I'd volunteer to admin the meetup page -- I'm a decent designer married to an excellent designer, so we could probably make the best of the templates, too. Let me know if moving cryptoparty seattle to meetup on my account is something the group would like to do. I'll try to make the meeting to introduce myself.

awesome.

Hi Chris,

I haven't experienced a cryptoparty yet. What is the attendance and agenda like?

We have our small tech and media ctr at the community center that I would offer up as a meetup location for the next one, with FGS hosting. We can discuss this tomorrow at the FGS meeting.

Thanks,
Jon

P.S. - Heather, thank you for offering to host a meetup page. I think it would be great that this be primarily a FGS MU page with cryptoparty as one of the sponsored meetings that FGS hosts periodically (as a topic) to keep the continuity. It would certainly add more traction to the general public.
