That's it!!! I'm dieting from today!!! Trying the SlimFast diet where you
replace 2 main meals with slimfast and have a healthy other meal. Having
beautiful fresh ham salad for this evening's meal. Unfortunately I sent John
to Morrisons [recommended stockist, well one of them] and he could only find
the soup!!! so he was a little love and brought all sorts of fruit for me
[he also got 3 bean salad in stuff and luxury coleslaw, ahh bless, he
doesn't realise the fattening calories in that!!]. So till I get down to the
supermarket, I'll initially have to either have soop for me brekkie [yeuk]
or a small {Slimming World] portion of breakfast cerial.....................
I am not telling you my weight yet coz I'm too scared to go on the scales,
but I will - dammit I've just been and weighed meself and I'm 14 stones and
12 pounds!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ohmygawd..........................
knew I'd put weight on, but not so much............................ right
that's it, slimming it is!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Losing 2 entire meals!!? Screw that, i would find that utterly impossible.
Might as well have a chicken or tuna salad baguette or something, i'm sure
it may be less calories than slimfast, and FAR more filling.
Have you seen in the US, the Subway diet guys? They lost loads through
eating subs (french sticks) instead of usual meals.

Don't forget the exercise to stop your metabolism dropping like a stone.

Good luck with it, Pat.

M&S has a really good 'Count On Us' range of slimming meals, and their
soups are nice too. Their 'Count On Us' bread is good also, especially
the granary bread which is yummy!

Try and keep stocked up on fruit for the times that you get hungry
between meals. I have a new found love of Granny Smiths! Microwave
popcorn is also pretty good for snacking on (it's also very filling).

Let us know how you get on. :-)

Snap Pat - I went and bought 24 cans of the milkshake (on special in Boots)
this lunchtime. I'm a stone heavier than when I was 9 months pregnant.
I've licked the smoking bit - now it's time to lose the flab.

Actually, the chocolate one's really nice and creamy - mmmm, this won't be

well I had the soup at lunchtime and its very tasty and filling [without
bread], just had a plum late afternoon. They recommend you drink loads of
water [oh heck where's the incontinence pads] to help with the metabolism
and I'm going back to linedancing. You don't actually lose 2 meals as such,
just substitute a drink/soup for brekkie and lunch and have a healthy main
meal at night or whichever way you want to do it to suit you................

Well goes to show what good tips I have... this time last year I was
19 stone! Hah, not really, but I have lost 2 stone since August. I am
now 'dieting' just to maintain my target weight. Joined a gym today,
so maybe the exercise will enable me to be 'naughty' a little more

I agree, i can't work out how you'd keep weight off on a diet that
involved skipping meals instead of eating sensibly.

I dunno, the microwave popcorn was really high in points on
weightwatchers - 7 points a bowl.

The Count on us range is EXCELLENT, as well as the low fat ranges in
tesco and safeway (eat smart?) - but the range in sainsbury's is
pants - usually higher fat thatn the normal stuff.

Quick hint Pat, it's hard to get rid of the powdery texture if you buy the
big tubs - the cans are far more expensive but if you find it difficult
sticking to the shakes, try having the cans occasionally - they're lovely!

well according to the SlimFast diet website - you are not actually skipping
meals, just exchanging them for the drink/soup which is balanced properly
for the vits and minerals that you should have
http://www.slimfast.co.uk/index.asp there are also some nice recipes on it
as well.........

That page is quite useful, cos it makes you set your first target at
10%, rather than looking at the bigger picture. That also means we
can get one and a half stones of crushing unhealthy stodge away from
your central organs - think of that for courage! Best of luck - I
tried to hit the hunger zone tonight, and ended up hitting the low fat
crap products instead - low fat crisps, low fat chocolate, low fat
everything in sight, etc...... but today was a bad day, and no excuse
for doing it again tomorrow. Onward! (rah, cheers, etc)

Cheers Vee, I'm sure I will get started again soon, but I just can't be
arsed. I have just booked a holiday for September so surely that will
provide some motivation sometime soon.....lol

No need to diet, just don't eat junk and increase exercise.
I still eat what i always have, but a 90 minute walk 4 or 5 times a week
has had serious results for me.
I enjoy the walk too, clears my head and allows me to hand-feed a swan.

Oh yeah, that's great motivation! You definitely need a date. If you
came to Coventry this July, you'd have an even sooner date to aim
for..... :)

Hey, you never did send me a piccie of Bentley - am i not allowed?

Speaking of pets, I had to take my cats to the vet tonight and had to
run out of the vet hosp, cos the sight of all the blood was too much -
i was starting to faint. Which was exceedingly, disappointingly,
frustratingly girly. Blinkin cats are costing me a fortune - every
time i go to the vets they decide they've got another horrendous
terminal disease that countless expensive tests prove negative. This
time, they want to send samples of tissue to Texas to find out about
the latest big three diseases. And the dumb vet wonders why my cats
hate him.....

> What's your ideal weight, Pat - your 22.5 BMI weight?

The BMI is total arse, especially for older women like Pat. It doesn`t
discriminate between fat and muscle(which weighs 3 times more than fat, and
even fat people get muscles from carrying it around), it was designed for
judging athletes and was hijacked my the american quack community like it
was gospel.
Some years back when i was really into weights and had more muscles(though
less bodyfat) my BMI was pushing into the "morbidly obese" part, results
were skewed by me being a shortie. Tom Cruise and Russell Crowe also class
as obese according to it:
http://news.corporate.findlaw.com/prnewswire/20020326/26mar2002124616.html

There is some group in the US trying to get the thing consigned to the bin
where it belongs, but i can't remember their URL. There is no need for it
these days, with those electronic bodyfat calculators available so cheaply,
and actually being accurate:
/report?prrfnbr=4404224&prmenbr=6970&type=big&thisMode=ols&cgrfnbr=66235>
Dumb long link, good monitor though, womens ideal number is around 20%
bodyfat.

Iceland's "Good Choice" range is spectacular. The stuff tastes FAR better
than *normal* meals, and has around the same cal/fat content as that
tasteless weightwatches junk even though the portions are almost twice as
much.

Thats because of the butter, or fat it gets pre-soaked in.
Doesn't count for the homemade stuff done in those little poppers that use
hot air instead.
But damn, its tasteless, if you add salt and butter its a waste of time
anyway. Fruit is far better IMHO, especially grapes which are great for
snacking on.

I was in the same position last year, Joe. I'd met some 'net friends

Wow! Not sure what it was on the Slimming World diet, but I was eating
it in large amounts fairly frequently and it didn't seem to have any
effect on my diet.

Yeah, steer clear of the Be Good To Yourself range. Birds Eye curries
were lower in cals and fat that the Sainsbury's slimming range
curries, IIRC.

Some of the Weight Watchers meals aren't bad either. The chicken
tagietelli (?sp) one is nice.

July is a bad time for travel here in Belfast, usually the roads to the
aiports are blocked around the 12th, so travel around that time is not
really an option :-(

<snip interesting info>
oh thanks Joe, I'm glad that being an *older* woman can have advantages -
hehe. I did notice though when I was linedancing that my inches reduced, but
the weight didn't come down any faster. I guess I was toning me muscles
up........... I didn't mind one jot though, I got into a loverly pair of
slimline red Americano jeans - still in me wardrobe and if I get into them
again I will post a piccy on our site on MSN and that's a
promise......................

well its ok so far - daughter has lost half a stone and feels good. I
thought the same, but what the heck I'll give anything a go at the moment!!!
Mind you, I've been dieting on and off for nearly 40 years!!! I've had a
load of success, especially with Slimming World, but its very very easy to
slip back as you can see............................. I keep changing my
eating habits to good ones, lose a stone or three and then over a couple of
years it all comes back.....................
