Timber Treatment Use Class 2?
Travis Perkins describe some timber as "Timber Treatment Use Class 2". What does that mean, and will it be suitable for building a garden shed out of? If it is suitable, do I need to treat it further before using it? -- I think I am an Elephant, Behind another Elephant Behind /another/ Elephant who isn't really there....... more »

White goods power consumtion
Having recently installed solar panels I'm now searching for the power consumption of various equipment in the house and am struggling. For example, our kettle says it's 3 kilowatt. Fair enough, but I cannot find the power consumption of our Bosch dishwasher. It seems these days that you get told an energy rating so you can compare one machine with another, but that's not the same thing. To know that it consumes 2 kwh to do a wash is not the same thing as knowing that it consumes 2 kw (or whatever) while actually running. One needs to know how much it consumes while running to know whether the solar panels, whose spot generation is known and varies a lot during most days, will power the machine for free or whether we've got to wait a bit for the sun to come out more.... more »

Shower isolating valve - where to put it?
Where is the shower isolating valves normally placed so that it is easily accessible at a later date for maintenance? The pipework for my shower will all be under the floor and in a partition wall so I can't think where to put it.

removing kitchen tiles
before our new kitchen arrives, I have to remove the tiles. Trouble is, trying to get them off is messing up the plasterboard underneath them - is there a way or a tip to getting tiles off a plasterboard wall, without damaging the plasterboard? Phil

Pine door finish.
I'm about to replace some wardrobe doors with louvred pine doors, probably from Wickes, if it makes a difference. They are supplied unfinished "ready for painting or varnishing" I won't be painting them, but I'm not sure I want to use varnish either, don't want them too glossy. Would some form of... more »

leaking radiator valve
My towel radiator valve is leaking. From the outside it looks like this [link] and from the inside like this [link] - this shows where it's leaking from. Looks to me as though the brass valve body is faulty and that I should be able to replace it with a new one. How standard is this part? I don't want... more »
