The airport’s route-development manager, Jan Emery, told a meeting of
the Scottish Council for Development and Industry in Aberdeen last
night that talks were ongoing with 22 carriers about various
short-haul and long-haul routes.

Something familiar about this? Seems the same promises about long haul
routes and runway extensions
for EDI were bandied by BAA over the last 10 years? Mind you the
promise of China from ABZ just under 5,000 miles,
would give credence to a possible EDI-Narita (Japan) at just over
5,700 miles.
Plus adding the long-overdue starter strips at EDI would result in a
10,000 ft runway.
Alternately adding ABZ's runway would result in a length under 7,000
ft, just imagine the potential of
a future 10,000 ft EDI runway!
