Eastern Airways is celebrating the 10th anniversary of its service
between Wick and Aberdeen, which provides an integral link for energy
companies and businesses in the North-east and the North Highlands.
The route was launched in 2001 with two daily weekday flights operated
by an Aberdeen based aircraft. Flight increased to three each weekday
from Aberdeen to Wick three years later.

An excellent route according to a friend who was a regular user a few
years back when
based in Aberdeen.
The route attracted 14,722 passengers in 2010 (all scheduled). Which
was 14,345 more
than the 377 charter passengers recorded travelling between GLA and
Brussels, the
de facto capital of the EU.

No wonder the usual suspects are deriding the service..shouldn't a
supposedly
vibrant city like Glasgow be able to support more than 377 annual pax
to Brussels.?
Perhaps the EDI service suits them.?
Shouldnt a supposedly vibrant city like Edinburgh be able to support
zero annual pax to Florida ?

Yes, the journey along the M8 from central Glasgow to EDI is
considerably
shorter than from the centre of Edinburgh to GLA.
I think BAA's own passenger source data shows a reversal over the past
few
years with more travelling eastwards to EDI with a view to boarding
the superb
range of scheduled international services not available at their local
airport.
The future is long haul, but we knew that. EDI i suppose can boast a
solitary long haul route.
