I'll take a look at the accessibility project more thoroughly,
however, I have been lurking on the accessibility group at
groups.drupal.org where there has also been some good discussions
about accessibility recently.
As far as ARIA goes, I'm not sure how integrated it could be into
drupal core, but it would certainly improve the accessibility of some
drupal moduals.
Drupal is already, out of the box, one of the most accessible CMS
available. ARIA would only increase this and would be an exciting
addition to the Drupal core.

Giving it a little more thought there are a couple places in the
administrative panel of drupal core that could use some ARIA
enhancements. I am thinking particularly about the ordering of block
elements in the theme. I will try to post a comment about this on
groups.drupal.org later this week.
I have been having some discussions with members of the Drupal core
team about using ARIA as well as doing some accessibility testing of
the new Drupal 7. They are aware of ARIA and I sense they are
increasingly interested in using it.
They may need some help with certain aspects of implementation,
techniques etc. I have posted links on the Drupal Accessibility Groups
list to the Codetalks wiki test cases.
Cheers
