Hi

I have been pretty successful running Frank tests on my ipad simulator .
I would very much like to get atleast a few tests to run on the physical device .
It would  help me automate my test set up .
I found a few threads on it .
But  since i am completely new to this whole thing . I did not understand the method .
I have the Frankified app running on my device .
What should i do next ?
What files need to be modified ?
How do i run my Frank tests ?
Can i not run my tests from the command line ?

I am finding these very confusing .
Could somebody please help me out  .

Thanks
Nandini

I think you set an environment variable both to tell frank to use a physical device, and to set the IP to connect to the app. I can't remember what they are though - search through Frank's source code from github.

You don't need to specify the IP address. The frank server in the app will advertise itself over the local wifi network using Bonjour. The ruby driver can be configured to look for a server that's running that way.

I think the Controls example app's tests do this if you set a environment variable. USING_PHYSICAL_DEVICE maybe? its not more that 20 lines of ruby to set it up for an app. I'm not near a computer so unfortunately I can't provide more specifics. :-/

Cheers,
Pete

Thanks Stew and Pete ,

I did try the same thing as the controls app , but it did not work for me ..

Is there any additional ruby lines i need to write up in my env.rb/launch.rb file ?

I am a newbie to automation and probably that is why i have trouble figuring things out.

I have found Frank extremely helpful and was able to get tests running on my physical device without much trouble at all :) and i simple love Symbiote :)

I think it would be very very helpful for me and many like me  if , Pete could pretty please write up some sort of documentation for testing on a physical device …

Like a steps to follow thingy ..

The forum has some threads on it ,but they are all extremely confusing for a newbie like me .

Hi Nandini,

I believe I am in a situation similar to yours.  I followed the tutuorial found here and it helped, but I am still running into a problem on step two.  I am able to run builds other than the Frankified.app, but those run no tests.  Let me know if this works for you.  It looks like a lot of people have made this work, so hopefully this will work for you.
