Description: Started as an amateur framebuilders forum in the 1990s, this list has grown to over 1,000 builders, professional as well as amateur, all around the world. You don't need to be a builder to join, the list is an open forum for discussion of what goes into building a bicycle frame.

Tandems and the fabrication thereof
Hello list, I'm looking at building a tandem frame in the next few months, and i'd appreciate the input of any list members who have experience with designing and building this style of frame. My experience as a tandem rider is very limited (i've raced a flexy old gitane on a cx course a few times, but that's about it...), so i'm... more »

Help with frame alignment
Framebuilders,   I need some advice on the quality of my frame alignment.  I presently have a head tube, down tube, seat tube assembly.   I have taken some measurements by using my table saw as a reference table.  If anyone is interested looking at my measurements and giving some advice, it would be greatly appreciated.  I have a pdf file with a picture and some data in it I can email out off list.... more »

Filling Dents
I recently filled a small dent in a chainstay with ordinary plumber's solder and it think I got a good result, seemed much more satisfactory than using an epoxy filler, but I'm absolutely brand new to metal work and wondered if there is any problem with such a technique? Portland break
To the list: Well, the long weekend found me in Portland. I hooked up with Ethan, an old friend who bought a bike off the floor from the '08 NAHBS. We rode 25+ miles Sunday afternoon. Ethan was the guy who talked the railroad out of the ROW for the trail up Johnson Creek, and convinced ODOT they would be money ahead if they underwrote the rail-to-trail... more »

Pin Holes
I recently fillet brazed a stem with C-04 brass and found lots of pinholes. What's bothering me is that I cannot account for what caused them. The 4130 steal was washed, and sanded inside and out as normal. Type B flux was added inside and out as normal. The brass rod was cleaned with Scotch Brite as normal. Does anybody have an... more »

Learning to paint near Pittsburgh
I keep building frames to practice my fabrication techniques. Then I build them up, unpainted, so that I can mess around with altering braze-ons, etc if I need to. If I really wanted, I could pay for a good quality wet paint-job here in Singapore, but I"m not that inclined to. I'd rather learn how to do it myself. Since these frames are not show pieces, they'd be good candidates to learn with.... more »
