Well, the long weekend found me in Portland. I hooked up with Ethan,
an old friend who bought a bike off the floor from the '08 NAHBS. We
rode 25+ miles Sunday afternoon. Ethan was the guy who talked the
railroad out of the ROW for the trail up Johnson Creek, and convinced
ODOT they would be money ahead if they underwrote the rail-to-trail
change. They saved a million $$ by not having to build a new railroad
bridge ... the trail is great. I did the whole ride on my BMX bike.
On the way back we stopped for a beer at Hopworks on Williams Ave.
They show custom frames above the bar, a whole row of them. I may try
to get one of my frames up in the line.
This morning I was riding 'round the Pearl District. It was getting
hungry out so I looked for some likely food. Pizza Smizza! I got a
really good slice there for $3.50. I was talking to Andre, the
owner, and the topic of bikles came up. He said he used to go out
with mark Dinucci's siter, back in the day. I gather it was all over
and no hope of reconciliation. He was happy to hear Mark is doing well
after all these years. I told him he should have bought a bike.
He's an uber-dachshund, l;ike a 26", 28" inseam. he showed me his
ride, a 24" geared bike.
Well, it's a small world.
