HI all,

The next meeting (the last for this year) will be held on Thursday
November 19th.

Our two presenters will be:

Mark Wotton
Hubris, a Trojan Horse for Haskell

It's easy to bind foreign libraries in Haskell, but comparatively
little effort has been put into making Haskell callable from other
languages. This is unfortunate, because many applications could
benefit from small chunks of Haskell for complex tasks. GHC 6.12
features dynamic libraries, however, and with that and ghc-api, I've
built a generator that can automatically produce ruby-compatible, type-
safe dynamic libraries from Haskell code.

Embedding a Rewriting DSL in Scala

Embedding domain-specific languages in general-purpose programming
languages offers a simpler path to implementation than developing
standalone DSL translators or interpreters. This talk describes an
experiment where the Stratego strategy-based rewriting language was
embedded in Scala as part of the Kiama library. The resulting library
is quite functional in nature and very faithful to the Stratego
language but also lightweight and easily combined with other Scala
code.

As usual there is an RSVP form here:

The meeting is at the Google offices at 48 Pirrama Road, Pyrmont, in a
building called Workplace6 (or WP6).

(map:

)

Google will admit people from 5:45, as usual. The building *should* let you
in, in which case come straight up to level 5. If it doesn't, call Shane
on 0405 491 744 or James on 0401 219 398 and they'll pop downstairs.

*** Please try to arrive before 6:30pm so Shane and James do not
*** have to miss part of the first talk while letting you in.

Cheers,
Erik
