Is redswoosh.exe running in your windows task manager process list?
If you send us your C:\Program files\RSSoft\guid.ini file we may be able to see if there's a problem.

I just installed the plugin on Windows XP SP2 with FireFox 2.0.0.3.
I'm seeing this too. Thought it might be a firewall issue, but
disabling my firewall temporarily didn't fix it either. Other ideas?

Kregen, ok, so redswoosh-linux is running.. what does the page at
http://www.redswoosh.net/sdk/usr/samples/redswoosh_scanner.html
say?

If it says initiazation failed, then it means something is blocking
redswoosh-linux from listening on a local port.. a firewall or
security program of some sort?

Same problem on an AMD Athlon, 1.33MHZ, Win2k.

It keeps saying that. It doesn't do it all the time, except on my
wife's computer. On mine it sometimes takes a few tries.

The scanner link and control panel actually kick it offline, and I get
that "Lost Connection" message. If I visit the control panel,
FoxTorrent even sometimes thinks I don't have an internet
connection.

I wish there was some reliable way to manage RedSwoosh. It doesn't
seem as stable as clients like KazaaLite or KCEasy.

This is the only Torrent client I can get to work, because even when
my router says have ports forwarded, the clients think that I don't.

Does it continue to work even with that message up there? i.e. do the peer counts and speeds etc keep updating?
Perhaps it's just the message that is faulty..

If it actually shows my downloads, then eventually it can update
itself to the point where the message goes away. The message by
itself? No.

So sometimes it shows your downloads and sometimes not?

Yes. Of course, now that I go to take a screenshot, it's working
(grrr...). It simply shows the "Lost Connection" message up above,
and the "Quick Advice" box below, upload/downloads at 0B/s, and the
open Downloads folder, which doesn't work.

The second is where it shows the things that I'm downloading, but
still loses connection. It was going, then it stopped: (http://
i206.photobucket.com/albums/bb34/steelcaress/foxtorrentscreen.jpg)

The third is where it shows my downloads, won't expand or collapse
them, and has that annoying message. Sometimes even tells me I don't
have an internet connection. The message can sometimes go away if
it's showing my downloads, in which case things will start coming
in.

Don't get me wrong. I like FoxTorrent. I like it a lot. It's just a
headache to get things started. My wife has gone to a different
client, because of the error message scenario in the first paragraph
of this post.

But I think you guys have done a great job. Just more stability would
be nice. In the time it's taken me to post this, Red Swoosh has
started up again.

Sounds like you're freaking out there.
Either the page can't talk to the client because the client's listening socket isn't accepting connections, or the client isn't running.
So is the redswoosh.exe process running the task manager process list when this message is showing?

But does the UI still update when that message is there? I.e. do the
download speeds change?
I suspect it's just a faulty message.

Well I don't know about the download speeds, but the downloading of all my files has just completely stopped. I can't open download folder, download anymore torrents, or use like the music player for music files I already downloaded.
So.....
is there a way to fix this?

Well the UI looks like it's having trouble talking to the RedSwoosh client. Can you send any log files that are in C:\Program files\RSSoft\ ?
i.e. RedSwoosh.log.

Looks like the RedSwoosh client is shutting down because it is using
too much of your CPU. That could be a bug in the client, or it might
even be just high activity on an older computer? Do you have an old
computer?

Sorry yes there's a bug in the client, we should have a fix out in a
few days.

Is there any workaround for this error now? Anyway to keep RedSwoosh
running until the client is fixed? Or is there an old client that can
be downloaded?

Linux FC7 x86 (maybe others) workaround:

as root do:

cd /lib
ln -s libssl.so.0.9.8b libssl.so.0.9.8
ln -s libcrypto.so.0.9.8b libcrypto.so.0.9.8

next time FoxTorrent asks for reinstall it works as designed, ie. with
bugs and all :-)

propellerhead info:
the installer is $HOME/.mozilla/firefox/*.default/extensions/*/
RSInstaller-Linux-i386

to check that all libs are found do a:
cd $($HOME/.mozilla/firefox/*.default/extensions/*/RSInstaller-Linux-
i386)
ldd RSInstaller-Linux-i386

developers, do a static binary ...

Yes, this is on our todo list in the near future for the Linux client. Thanks for the feedback - I love hearing from our Linux & Mac users.

Also having the same problem--RedSwoosh.exe is in my task manager
list, but I'm getting the lost connection error message. Also when I
try starting from the control panel, I get the "wait 5 seconds" msg
and then it bounces right back to "Red Swoosh not running, click
start".

Running W2K.

Hm, have you a firewall or other program that might be blocking it?
